Hello Alacrity,
We are opening applications for Moderator positions and potentially Helper positions, however before you rush off to apply, please read through all of this thoroughly. This isn't a position for everyone, as it takes away from playing the site for entertainment, you have to be willing to be online five days a week and work during those five days. This work includes: handling issues in the issue hub, watching the forums, being in chat, and a variety of other daily tasks.
Being a mod isn't about getting people into trouble, it's about trying to prevent rule breaking through education, communication, and hard work. Site staff is here to help make Alacrity an enjoyable, equal, and safe place for all of our members. We're looking for players who aren't afraid of challenges, have a drive for improving Alacrity, and the ability to lead by example. If you're applying to be a mod, please put the subject of your message as heart, as our mods are the heart of Alacrity, they keep everything running smoothly and care deeply that the site is kept fair and appropriate for everyone.
Helpers are our front line of Alacrity, they greet all our new players and know the site in a way even some of the Admins don't. They are friendly, helpful, and know how to explain even the most complex things simply. If you're applying to be a helper, please put the subject of your message as spirit because first and foremost, they are the spirit of Alacrity. We have always had a welcoming player base, and Helpers came about because we wanted to embody that spirit into a group specifically to help all our players.
All applications that we receive will be read and considered, you need not have a spotless record to apply. We haven't opened up mod applications in a year and Helper Applications in nearly two years, so we do this with both excitement and the promise to giving seriously thought to every applicant. We're looking for members who are committed to Alacrity, whether they're always in the forefront of the site or they prefer to lurk behind the scenes in the forums.
We do not ask you know all the rules by heart, or even the site by heart, if you're willing to learn, please apply.
Requirements to apply to be a Moderator: 1. You must be an active player.
2. You must be at least 16 years of age to apply.
3. You must answer all questions as clearly and honestly as you can.
4. You must have an AIM account or the ability to create one and be on it while on Alacrity.
5. You must be willing to be online 5 days a week with minor exceptions.
6. You must be passionate about Alacrity and it's players.
Moderator Application: 1. Why do you want to be a Moderator? What do you think are the key traits of a good Moderator?
2. Are you willing to put time into this job by keeping up on current site issues, keeping in contact with your fellow staff via Ala messages and AIM, and doing daily work? Are you able to comfortably handle between 7 and 10 issues in the hub a week on top of daily moderator duties?
3. What time zone are you in? How many days a week do you spend on Alacrity?
4. How much time do you spend on Alacrity a day? What do you do while you're online? How many hours can you realistically devote to moderator duties instead of playing the game a day?
5. What do you think qualifies you to be a mod on Alacrity? It can be either what you do on Ala or what you do in real life or what you do anywhere else.
6. What is your favorite thing on Alacrity?
7. Tell us something about yourself, something you're passionate about in your life besides Alacrity.
8. What do you think is the most important rule and why? (There is no wrong answer!)
9.
"I have a beautiful Custom GSD for Sale, you can see here Here! She's 13 bones, message me, ZJ!" What is wrong with this post if I put it in Main Chat? In a scribble? Where are the correct places to put this post?
10. Looking at the post for the question above, write up a mock message to ZJ about the rules he broke, and why he broke them, and what he can do to prevent it in the future.
11. If you did not know the answer to #9, would you feel comfortable talking to Admins and other mods to make sure you handled the rule breaking correctly? Would you feel that way after 6 months of being a moderator?
12. One of the hardest aspects of being a mod is writing up people who are friends or who you know are good players. If you saw your friend break a rule in chat - even if this is your roommate or a fellow staff member - what would you do? Would you be able to write them up or report it to a fellow Moderator or Admin?
13. If we fill all Moderator Positions, are you interested in being a Helper? If yes, please answer the additional Helper Application questions as well.

2. How many hours do you spend on Alacrity a day and how many can you devote to helpering?
3. Explain the difference between white/tan markings and secondary markings, including what opacities do, like you were talking to a new player.
