That's how I was for a while: it just came down to being willing to pay for something that didn't seem to be improving. Either way you play it, Alacrity is still free! ;0) For a while on Ala, the money on the site really dried up (no flowing economy!), probably because trials were down for so long a time. Now things are flowing a lot better, so it's probably the perfect time to start fresh! I got into capped breeding (glitch caps) and its surprisingly lucrative... especially since I trial them, too! I used to read a lot but the problem is, is that I read so fast and so well, that I can polish off a 600 page book in a few hours, which is precisely what I did today... I don't have the money to support how much I like to read and I've plowed through every interesting book at my library. I used to go ever single day!

For me, if I were you, I would get a $3 one (or more than one), and maybe get one of the perks.

Well with 50 bones you could decide whether or not to upgrade forever or not, but upgrades only get ala cash. We get 200 cash a day instead of 100, and we can post two adverts instead of one. Other than that, it's basically it :/
Actually, you can upgrade for a mere 3 bucks. I believe the 15 one is for a year, but the 3 one is like 2 months or something (I upgraded myself until like October using the $3 one :D).
