For my mice I use Ozpet, an Australian litter which is a compressed wood pellet. It is unparalleled for odour control, natural oils in the wood help control the smell really well. You can't get lax about cleanouts though since it breaks down into power and gets dusty then. I'm not sure if it's available outside the country or not. My next choice is the compressed recycled paper products like Back To Nature or Breeder's choice, but not quite as good for the smell.

They are pretty easy to breed unless you get uncooperative snakes - otherwise if they are good feeders once the female is to size (about 2 years old) during breeding season you just keep sticking the male in with her once a week until she ovulates and then wait for eggs.
