The Keepers of Emotion are dogs that contain pieces of soul, made up of an emotion. They feel no other emotions but these, and if the Emotion Soul they are holding is taken away, they will become hollow and heartless, like zombies. They were bred to keep one human alive for thousands of years. If the dog that holds the Soul piece is living, the human who granted them the Soul piece lives too. Soul pieces are passed down through breeding of these Soul Keepers, so their pups will also keep the human alive. If all dogs holding one Soul Emotion (basically, a family of dogs) dies, the human loses the ability to feel that emotion.
