Well, I would suggest aquabid.com, and I personally have talked to (though never ordered from, I already have a breeder sending me a pair I like) Chard56, he's in the US and takes great care of his bettas, and also has a huge variety.
And aquabid is pretty much ebay for fish, so all reviews are posted by people buying from or selling to him.

Petsmart does kinda suck, that's why my next two are coming from Working. I think another part of it is they were from 2 weeks ago now, since the shipment meant for last Friday was missed b/c of the holidays
Funny petsmart story, I was there the other day and they had 3 female bettas marked as dragonscales xP I was like...uh, duh! I love Jazz, but he will be my last pet store betta, petco isn't really any better. They're just more expensive. I would suggest, if you can get some stuff to care for them better, to get a betta from a breeder. Much more expensive, esp. if you have to pay shipping, but so much healthier fish. Breeders spend time to make sure they use onl the healthiest stock and to cull defects rather than getting every possible fish to maturity and shove them full of crap to make them grow faster to get on shelves faster

Sea salt is different than regular salt,so I wouldn't trust it. I just use the salt my parents put on the table. Just make sure it is non-iodized.
And I'm not exactly an expert on bettas, I know a lot of pet store bettas come with issues and not having the clean water etc. might have exacerbated them. Sometimes they have issues you just can't save, like my Teague.

No. I went and looked under search for male JRTs, and usernames don't usually tell a person anything.
My reason was I was planning on breeding him with my JRT girl. But I forgot to check to see if he were neutered or not. Also, there hasn't been any male JRTs for sale for a long while so I was thinking "Yay! That is awesome deal!" -buys- I was super excited. But then I realized after having him for 6 hours that he was neutered. And also I don't have any MDB's on me and so I wouldn't have been able to change his gender twice to fix the problem.
I am fine being on the no-sells list. I am sorry that I retired him. But I didn't want him to get super old not being able to change his gender in time to breed :(
