MATURE CHAT
Started By
I personally am getting tired of "controversial" subjects booted out of Chat A/B because some people find them unsettling.
I am suggesting a Controversial chat so that we can talk about more "adult" themes without getting shushed. "Adult themes" does not mean sexual content [as that's kinda best hidden in the adult section of the forum] but things like taxidermy, roadkill, outdoor cats, unfixed animals, etc etc are all things that are NOT 18+/ADULT but keep getting shushed in Chat when nobody is getting out of control just because the younger players don't like talking about it. I can see it having the same type of rules as Chat A/B with no swearing and if it turns into an argument, it can be sent to the debate board.. but I just hate not being able to talk about things like the above because there are children around.
If someone doesn't like talking about gore or hunting, they are 100% free to go back to Chat A or B and leave the rest of us to talk about this kind of thing maturely.
Support? Why or why not?

Ehm: Well.. it wouldn't really be off-limits to minors because we wouldn't be discussing anything illegal or sexual. Think of "Mature" or "Controversial" or "Sensitive Subjects" being the name of the chatroom.
Things like "should I let my cat outside?" should be discussed between mature adults, not kids who say "MY CAT RAN AWAY! I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT THIS!". I KNOW people in chat can support their side of the arguments with reasonable things as to why they would/wouldn't let their cats out, but there's always some player who gets upset over it and demands the subject changed.

Support.

I like to talk about those things too Gamzee, but it is always shushed because someone "dislikes the current topic". I can get a bit upset because of that because some people don't choose just to temporarily turn off side chat.
Personally, I'd like an 18+ chatroom, but I don't know how it would be worked out as to who is allowed access and who isn't, seeing as we have no genuine way to determine a person's age.

Even with some lock out based on an entered birthdate, a lot of people would just, well, lie.

In regards to controversial subjects, however, a large part of the reason they're not allowed in chat has nothing to do with a person's age. It's because a lot of members have difficult discussing such topics in a calm and respectful manner, regardless of how old or young they are.
In a chatroom setting, it's very difficult for moderators to stay on top of inappropriate comments and hurt feelings. That's why things like that get sent to the Debate board.

Worth mentioning that I'm not saying this as a site moderator, but as a user myself.

I agree, it's been hard to deal with a lot of people "freaking out" or "getting their way" when they don't like a convo, we never really had a problem in chat before though some convos such as Death can be tough on people. Sometimes, I wish some people would either ignore chat when people are talking about a certain subject instead of entering in all sad or mad because they don;t like what they see or go to a different chat room. :/

Example: Someone would say something about wanting to loose a few pounds, someone else then mentions something about their weight. Then I would then someone would enter into chat seeing what is being said and says. "I don't feel comfortable talking about my weight so can we change the subject!" That annoys..... and here I am type of a person who has a HIGH toleration level but it's starting to go down even time stuff like that happens.

What gets is that there is a reason why we have Chat A and B not just because Chat A gets to busy and moves but to also have two chat rooms when people aren't liking in convo in one of the other -shakes head- I think some people just like to cause problems....sorry for ranting but it's true.

I support.
