NaNoWriMo '11
Started By
I don't know if anyone's heard about NaNoWriMo, but it's a writing competition, where you write whatever you want. The goal is to reach 50K words by the end of November (it starts November 1st).

I'm so excited! I participated for the first time last year, and I'm looking forward to doing so again!

And you? Have you been a NaNo-er, or will you join for the first time this year? Let's hear about your experiences!

Ugh, still at 6402. I'm having to get up at 5 in the morning to write, because during the day I've got so much other work to do x.x

Broke 10k today D; too bad the goal is 21k

I'm at 4000(ish) :3 1k more to go for today! I was quite a ways ahead the first day too xD Didnt last long.

I'm stuck at 1166 words for now. If only I didn't have an 8 page paper due Monday on how feminism can be applied to literary theory, I'd be good to go! *grumbles*

3813 words for me! I'm already doubting this story a lot, though. T_T

To force myself to continue, I'm pretending that it's homework and that I have no choice but to finish it hahaha

Nice! now if only I could focus and get off Ala >.< I need to WRITE!

My literary theory class is the one I outline through. 1 hour and 15 minutes of analyzing theory! >.>

I just passed 1000 words. Now it feels like I'm writing. *dances*

Now 2105.
Hehe-- my Spanish 2 class is my homework/doodling class. I seriously learn nothing. So it's perfect for character sketches xD

11-2-2011 at 11:49 PM
Sheesh! You're doing pretty well! I have the first part of my story outlined and everything (got bored in class..heh) but I can't seem to write it out nicely. It's all "I did blah blah, he did blah blah, they went there, this was that" and I spend so much time deleting that I think I'm officially losing words >.< haha

11-2-2011 at 11:45 PM
2039 for me x} I need to write another 1000 before I can go to bed.

11-2-2011 at 11:42 PM
Eesh! So mine is getting off to a slow start. I'm only at about 800 words. Once I get into it, it'll be fairly easy for me to crank out 1667 a day till the end. But it's the starting that gets me. How's everyone else doing?

Well, if anyone's interested in following my novel, here's a link to my NaNo,
The Eccentric and The Hatter

Woot it has begun for my timezone anyway! xD

I will be working on an idea I've been...plotting...for several years. I havent actually sat down and wrote the darn thing, though, so this is the perfect opportunity for me to hopefully get myself to work on it and actually get a lot done >.< I'm going to try and make myself do so, anyway.

Perhaps next year, if I manage to finish this... I will try jumping into it without any preparation ahead of time, just to see how it goes :3

Heeey we should all become writing buddies :D Then we can prod at each other if our word counts are low! xD

Yeah, I understand being paranoid. :[ I'm that way with my art sometimes, and that doesn't take nearly as much effort as NaNoWriMo.

Hold on to that optimism, Three. ^^

Character meetings are so exciting. :3

10-30-2011 at 6:07 PM
I may post online, but I'm usually pretty paranoid about it >.<

I'm in the same boat! I have characters that have to meet and go somewhere, but I can't decide how they should meet. Everything I try just feels wrong >.<

10-30-2011 at 5:19 PM
I might post it online, but honestly it'll probably need to be edited like crazy. So it'll probably be well after November before I get it ready to be read by anyone. My goal is to do absolutely no editing until I've reached 50k words.

I've never been so determined for NaNoWriMo before.

Which is weird, because I still have NO IDEA how to begin my novel - I don't know how my characters will run into each other. D:

Despite that, I'm still more optimistic than I've been in the past.

Watch me just blow it, though XD

A good response to your internal critic. :P (I kind of want to buy it. I could put it right above my computer.)

I was struggling internally with whether to do NaNo this year, but I think I'm not motivated enough to stick to it. Maybe I'll just try to write something every day instead; that'll be better than my current apathetic "I'll get written someday" attitude.

Out of curiosity, are any of you planning on posting what you write online? I'd love to read some good novels during November. :3

10-29-2011 at 11:50 PM
How have you trained yourself to do that? Or is it just something that came to you naturally?

My internal critic is a horrible person than instills crippling anxiety into my soul.
10-29-2011 at 9:41 PM
So am I :P

It's not that I don't brainstorm, it's just that I don't put too much weight into what I think up. If I do, my internal critic yells at me and tells me it's an overused idea and it's not original and that no one will like it and that it's horrible and etc. I keep trying to shut her up, but it's not working. Therefore, I jump in more or less blind. XD

Roo, I'm totally curious as to how people do that.

I don't really plan a lot, but I always plan out the beginning, what the antagonists wants, and the end. I feel like if I didn't know the plot in this basic way, I'd never get anything done. But then it comes down to the day before November and if I don't have one of those things figured out I start to panic. I really wish I knew how to just write spontaneously. I feel like it would make NaNoWriMo a lot less stressful for me.
