Question: How can a figure out my Daemon? I took 2 test, one said I was grey wolf and one said I was african wild dog.
Answers: Champion, there is a lot of research that goes into it :)
You cann't just take a quiz unless its from someone who has been researching animals and knows many kinds. I know that my daemon is not a cheetah but a asiatic cheetah. Each has a different personality :)
.
Well, figuring out your Daemon takes time and patince. You will want to do lot of reseaching on animals that YOU feel that you represent.
I'll share what happened to me - I was new to Daemons, and had been thinking, and thinking, and thinking, and reaching deep down into myself to discover what I might be. I already knew that I might be some kind of wild cat, but suddenly it it me, and ever since I found out what my daemon is... or is close to, I've been reading and finding out as much about leopards as I can. =)
------------------------------------------------------------------
Question/Comment: i have a hybrid daemon who is a european badger/bear and emirates has a sabretoothed bengal/siberian tiger.
emirates told me that the badger represents stubbornness and tenacity and the bear represents strength and protectiveness.
my daemon hasn't gotten a name yet. or at least he hasn't told me it. i first noticed him the day my wife passed away. he revealed himself to me after the funeral while i was alone at the graveside. he told me he'd been sent to watch over me and i feel he's a representation of my late wife or is a guardian sent by her.
Answer: Well, usually within the daemon community, animals can't be hybridized to represent yourself. Obviously you can believe whatever you want, and I don't want to put you down. I'm just stating the general belief I've seen in the community. There's an animal out there somewhere that fits you well enough without needing to be hybridized with another.:) ((I don't even think I know anyone who claims to have a mixed dog breed daemon.xD))
Reply: then maybe he's not a daemon. he just seems to fit the description.
i believe the demon who is with my boyfriend is a real one because such hybrids can exist in the wild if a siberian and bengal tiger were close enough geologically to mate.
Answer to Reply: You need to focus on that one animal deep down in your soul, and not let imaginary friends or whatever block your daemon from fully surfusing. I had troubles because I still wanted to talk to my imaginary friends when my daemon surfased. So what I did was put their personalities into his. That solved my problem. =D
Another answer: The hybrid one could be a headmate.^^ Or, it could be your daemon, but in a different form. Even if you are settled, your daemon can take different forms. I'm in no way a GSD, but Razz takes the form all the time.
As for the tiger hybrid, that's a bit more acceptable. I misread your post a bit.XD
Reply: Just to point out: it doesn't make much sense that hybrids aren't "allowed." Firstly, who makes up the rules, there? And secondly, people have mythological animals for daemons...why not hybrids?
Reply: it's not that they're not allowed - they're just uncommon.
Reply: Actually, mythics are generally viewed as not viable forms because you can't actually record their behavior.
And hybrids that are crazy/random/unnatural are considered not viable because they don't happen in nature. You can't record their actual behavior and attitudes, like you can with actual animals.
They aren't rules, per say. But the whole point is to get to understand your personality better. You choose a mythic form, it could be interpreted anyway that you want it to. So that it did fit you, just because it was a cool form. Same with hybrids, or uber!wolf forms. (Forms taken by n00bs where its something completely random, like a neon blue wolf with bat wings and sparkles.>.>)
There are no "rules", like you seem to think. Technically, people can believe whatever they want. There are just generally theories on daemons. Its not something done for fun or for the heck of it. The community of TDF has been theorizing for years now on many different aspects of daemonism. Mythics used to be accepted forms, although it was believed to be rare, but as we have realized they can't be viable due to the fact they do not exist, the common belief has changed. There is constant debate over things like this. For a while now, there's been debates focusing on whether primates and dolphins were viable, due to their high intelligence level and "non-human" people status and such. (They are considered viable at this point.)
Reply: It just seemed a little harsh to say a daemon "can't be hybridized." And a little silly for there to be such cut-and-dry rules on something that's supposed to be so personal. Reply:
I recall actually stating in that post that I didn't mean to be harsh. Emotions can't be conveyed that well over the internet, and anything I say should not be taken that harshly.
Also, I'm just trying to be helpful. Hybrid animals are usually viewed to be non-viable because there's usually an animal that fits better. Yes, there can be two animals that half fit you and you turn them into a hybrid, but there's almost always one animal out there that fits on its own, rather than having to do that.
I actually think this has been discussed on TDF. I'll see if I can find the threads.
Reply: They're thereos that are logical.
Reply: guess you are right. maybe he's not settled on a solid form yet. he's been this way a long time, though. perhaps it is why he's not given me his name yet. maybe he will in time, when he and i settle on a form.
thanks for your comments, guys. :3
Reply: Just to clarify, I didn't mean "harsh" as in...mean. I guess "final" would have been a better word to use there.
Been awake too long in one stretch. Sorry!
Reply: Didn't see your edit. So here's my response to that.XD
Humans are considered non-viable because humans don't have a specific mold to them. Wolves are all social, are all territorial, etc. Humans aren't. The wide variety of personality in humans makes them non viable.
And that can make a bit of a difference. I do know of one person who had a mythic daemon that was considered viable. That was before views on TDF changed, but there are occasionally mythics that have an established mythology to the point they can be analyzed, but I think in that case, they usually mirror other existing animals.
And Ramm, sometimes daemons stay in forms for a long time and then you find something that fits better. Also, it doesn't mean he has to stop taking this form. Again, since daemons are not corporeal, they don't follow any set laws. (For example, Razz will occasionally grow wings and fly around like an idiot. I don't say its a part of his form, because his form is still a regular CWD. But since he doesn't have to follow the laws of physics or anything, he can grow wings if he wants.) Same with settling. Even if your daemon settles as something completely different, he can still take said hybrid form as a comfort form. (A form a daemon takes to make the human feel better or more at ease.)

Comment: Hmm. This is interesting. Aad sent me to a website, I've forgotten what it is now, and everything seems to point me to a Grizzly.
But it's strange that I don't "see" him the way I see my other schizophrenic incarnations in-mind representations.
I get lots of horses, deer, a black panther and a blue roan bull. None of these have interpretations that fit me the same way Grizzly Bears are typically described.
Reply: Well, if you can't quite see your Daemon then you probably need to spend some time trying to talk to him/her and get him/her to surface. =)

Comment: Yayy a daemon thread! I'm interested to see how many people on Ala have daemons.
Kai is my daemon and is currently taking form of a curly coated retriever but is still unsettled ^^ I'm always open to talking about daemons--here or by PM.
Also here is TDF for anyone looking for the link. Great community and lots of great helpful information ^^
Reply: Agreed. =D

Question: How do you get a Daemon?? o3o /derp derp derp
Reply: How come I always miss the daemon stuff on here? 0_0
Anyway, the daemon of two years is Ari, stable border collie. Always open to talking about daemon stuff, feel free to message me, it's just about my favorite subject.
Mag: Check out The Daemon Page, it's a great place to start. :)
Reply: Mag, you basically have to find your daemon within yourself. He/she is your conscience, soul etc in an animal form. So that little voice telling you to get to bed, or eat a certain food. Have you ever talked to yourself about something and analyzed it and heard that answering voice? That's your daemon. It can be somewhat challenging for some to get used to separating that part of you into an animal form. I suggest reading through the information put on daemonpage.com. Very very helpful ^^ For starters you can try recognizing that answering voice and talking back to it and start a conversation with your daemon. Or trying projecting him/her. :)
Yay! Hi Jill!! :D
Reply: Sheep:: I was there, didn't understand HOW though... Like- It was confusing to me...
I guess that makes sense Lenny- in a way.. I always here myself in a small voice, it doesn't have much say in anything, but I always hear what I SHOULD do, like the right thing. Does that narrow it down to some things?
Comment: I got my Daemon! It is a swan. :D I took a test (like 100 questions) It gave my 5 possibilities, It came down to Wolf and Swan. And after some research, I discovered Swan. :D I can NOT figure out if it is a male or female though. It'll answer almost every other question but that, and when it talks, it's a low echo. And sometimes it;s a more high echo..,. So I dunno. An ideas??
Reply:Well, usually a daemon is the opposite gender as yourself.
I happen to know that Lenny and myself are both female and we both have Male Daemons.
EDIT: You also have to talk to your daemon about this. =D
Reply: See- it won't answer this, and it's voice is just an echo. :T
Reply: Well, all daemons are different. x3 Kodi also talks through images in my head sometimes. As for what gender it's usually just what you feel comfortable with.
I remember that when I first started talking to Kodi I had a hard time talking to him, but then I just sort of... imagined his voice commenting on what was going on... After a while it just became second nature.

Question: I have a question myself. Can Daemons breed, or date, or whatever??? And if you, yourself are gay {not that I am! xP} would your daemon be gay as well?
Reply: Daemons cannot breed.^^ They can't really "date" either, since they can't see eacch other and don't feel that for other daemons.
And your sexuality does not reflect onto your daemon really. Mainly because sexuality doesn't apply to them. If Razz was human, I'm pretty sure he'd be gay, but he isn't, so...XD
Reply: OOOOH okay! Wait - Daemons can't see eachother!!!?
Nope, Warrior, daemons can't see each other. x3 They're you, and you can't see other daemons, so they can't. :'3
(And I should probably say that my boyfriend's daemon is also a boy, so clearly daemons don't really say anything about dating stuff. xD)

Comment: The thought process of a daemon didn't really occur to me until recently. I've had the "other side of me", my conscience, my internal teacher, whatever you want to call it for a very very long time now. I ran across a conversation in chat and looked up TDF. I looked/read (forever it seemed) to research. I looked up what I thought was my daemon's form and read it very very carefully several times. 99% of it creepily matched.
*sigh* I truly think his settled form is a Mackenzie Valley Wolf (subspecies of a grey wolf). I know. I know. Everyone seems to think they have a lupine daemon. Nothing else feels right though. So, I guess as long as it feels right to both of us, who cares? Anyways, that's what he is.
I figure I identify him as my daemon because I don't always have clear separation between myself and him. I feel like sometimes he gives me perspective I might not have acknowledged otherwise. I think he drags things I try to ignore out into the open whether I want it or not to face it. Which is usually a good thing. I've heard daemons are sometimes thought to be a person's conscience. I think this is at least partly true for myself, for some of the reasons above.
Anyways, I don't even know why I'm writing on and on :) Guess I just finally wanted to put it in writing. His name, by the way, is Sol-leks. Yes, I claim his name on the internet. Weird, maybe. But it feels right.

Also, if mythological creatures have a very set and steady set of traits, personality, etc. to the person believing it, would that make any sort of difference...?

Actually, mythics are generally viewed as not viable forms because you can't actually record their behavior.<br /> <br /> And hybrids that are crazy/random/unnatural are considered not viable because they don't happen in nature. You can't record their actual behavior and attitudes, like you can with actual animals.<br /> <br /> They aren't rules, per say. But the whole point is to get to understand your personality better. You choose a mythic form, it could be interpreted anyway that you want it to. So that it did fit you, just because it was a cool form. Same with hybrids, or uber!wolf forms. (Forms taken by n00bs where its something completely random, like a neon blue wolf with bat wings and sparkles.>.>)<br /> <br /> There are no "rules", like you seem to think. (They are considered viable at this point.)

it's not that they're not allowed - they're just uncommon.

Just to point out: it doesn't make much sense that hybrids aren't "allowed." Firstly, who makes up the rules, there? And secondly, people have mythological animals for daemons...why not hybrids?

The hybrid one could be a headmate.^^ Or, it could be your daemon, but in a different form. Even if you are settled, your daemon can take different forms. I'm in no way a GSD, but Razz takes the form all the time.<br /> <br /> As for the tiger hybrid, that's a bit more acceptable. I misread your post a bit.XD

You need to focus on that one animal deep down in your soul, and not let imaginary friends or whatever block your daemon from fully surfusing. I had troubles because I still wanted to talk to my imaginary friends when my daemon surfased. So what I did was put their personalities into his. That solved my problem. =D

then maybe he's not a daemon. he just seems to fit the description. <br /> i believe the demon who is with my boyfriend is a real one because such hybrids can exist in the wild if a siberian and bengal tiger were close enough geologically to mate.

Well, usually within the daemon community, animals can't be hybridized to represent yourself. Obviously you can believe whatever you want, and I don't want to put you down. I'm just stating the general belief I've seen in the community. There's an animal out there somewhere that fits you well enough without needing to be hybridized with another.:) ((I don't even think I know anyone who claims to have a mixed dog breed daemon.xD))

i have a hybrid daemon who is a european badger/bear and emirates has a sabretoothed bengal/siberian tiger.<br /> <br /> emirates told me that the badger represents stubbornness and tenacity and the bear represents strength and protectiveness.<br /> <br /> my daemon hasn't gotten a name yet. or at least he hasn't told me it. i first noticed him the day my wife passed away. he revealed himself to me after the funeral while i was alone at the graveside. he told me he'd been sent to watch over me and i feel he's a representation of my late wife or is a guardian sent by her.

Woot, I've been waiting for this topic! As I said a million times today, my inbox is always open for daemon related questions.<3 I will also check this thread a lot now.xD<br /> <br /> But I've known my daemon for well over four years now. Our CIEDay is March 31, 2007.<3 His name is Razz and he currently takes the form of a Chinese water deer, though we aren't settled yet. He loves wearing fedoras and messing with my other headmates.XD<br /> <br /> Seriously though, my headspace is full of singers.x.x All of my headmates love to sing, especially Razz.XD
