General Player Maturity
Started By
I'm seeing a disturbing trend lately. Many players are complaining and commenting that "swearing" and mature themes are being used on the site. (However, it is known that swearing is prohibited except in the designated areas (18+ board). And even that replacement swear words (freakin', crap, etc.) should not be used in case a younger player should see. Such players often claim that Ala is a "kids" game. It is not.
Alacrity was (supposed) to have a mature player base, and those under 13 are not even allowed to play without parental permission.
Such players seem ignorant to the rules and designated places, and seem to expect that rules be bent specifically as to their wishes just because they may be younger. Obviously, that would be a stupid and non-feasible approach to the situation.
The 18+ board is just that, for mature players and the 18+ crowd, who are NOT offended by mature content. Every day I see more players entering the board that clearly do not belong there, or even may state such things as "THIS IS ON A KIDS' GAME?!!?"
Should these players have the right to complain?

NOT trying ooo my gosh WOW. Maybe it's just because I grew up in a Christian home. Never had swearing in my house. My friends do it, but do I? I certainly TRY not to!

Like, I use "Hell" when I'm talking about the actual Hell but not just for cursing..... Most of the time. Lawlz.

I personally never swear at all. I just never really picked it up =/

Am i all taboo about it though? No. I see nothing wrong with it when it is used in a mature way. Aka, when running into a tree you may swear, when you are mad at a person and intend for the swear words to hurt.

This is a +13 site. People aren't going to censor themselves for you in the real world, Robyn was just nice enough to do it here.

If someone is under 13 and anywhere on the internet (especially a site that they aren't technically old enough for), i expect you to be mature. Even if you are in the age limit i expect you to be mature. This is a game, it is meant to be fun. I do not come here to be cussed out or come here to listen to anyone whine and complain or to have to watch every little thing i say and make sure it is 'G' rated.

A happy medium is all i want.

"I mean, like, would you say freakin' in front of your grandma or mom? Noooo"

I cuss in front of my parents and if my grandparents were alive I wouldn't mind cussing in front of them either.

I firmly believe that it is up to the PARENTS (Not the websites) to make sure children are not browsing something that might be considered inappropriate for them. If someone finds words such as "freakin'" and "darn" to be offensive then they probably shouldn't be on the internet at all... unless of course it's a site that is made specifically for children under the age of 13.

I am very curious, what makes cusswords any different than any other regularly used and accepted word? They are all just words after all. (Just to clarify, I mean cusswords that ARE NOT aimed directly at people and meant to be hurtful.)

Of course they have the right to complain, but it's kind of stupid to do so. Alacrity isn't a website for children just because it welcomes child players provided they have parental consent. It's really pretty silly to complain about there being an 18+ board that people under 18 can get into - if it's 18+ and you're younger than 18, you shouldn't advertise that you're hanging out there. >.>

I don't curse in front of my parents, but the children on this site aren't my parents. So...I'm having trouble seeing how it relates.

I'm 17, and I don't swear around my mom now, but she knows I swear and doesn't really care. I've never cursed at her, though, only about her to friends.>.>

Not only do I curse in front of my mom, when I was younger I tended to swear /at/ my mom.

Uh, I actually would curse in front of my mom.>.> The only reason I wouldn't curse in front of my grandma is she is super religious and would probably kill me for doing so.

And no, I don't think they have the right to complain. Well, they technically have the right to, but I also have the right to think it makes them look like complete idiots. I'm sorry, it's not a kids site. If you are 13, you are not a kid, and parents should realize that they are giving permission for their children to be on a 13+ site. And there is very rarely cursing, and I have never seen any problems with it. I mean, the only time I've seen the filters used were when they messed up item names and such in chat.XD

And Rob is the owner of this site and knows that there are a lot of adults on here, and it is her decision to make an 18+ board. And there's nothing wrong with it. People under 18+ should not be clicking it. And if they do, they should realize that there are inappropriate themes there.

But it isn't swearing, it's not against the rules, and it's not up to you to make those decisions?

For your information, I am an adult I have and will continue to swear in the presence of my mom/grandma. And I don't just say "freaking", "crap", "pissed", etc. Don't answer "nooooo" for me, because the answer is indeed yes.

Deffinitly! I'm 11... 12 in a few months. No swearing should be allowed here. It's just RIGHT. I mean, like, would you say freakin' in front of your grandma or mom? Noooo
