Cobalt Island (One on One RP~ Readers Welcome!)

Introduction:

Your character(s) had or lived in Lahaina, Maui (Hawaii). Some of you received a scholarship invite to Archer Bay Academy (aka ABA). Archer Bay is a fairly new school but it's academics is the highest throughout Hawaii. Archer Bay is always looking for those with unique skills. It almost seems to good to be true. Some of you may come from a well off family while others barely have a dime into their name. Getting an invite to a high end private school brings up red flags. So, at first you might not consider joining until something at home pushes you in going.

When the characters first enter the school they meet in the assembly room/cafeteria to great one another for the first time. It's one of those systems to get new members of the school feel more welcome and possibly meet new friends who are just as clueless as they are. Once the greeting is over the new students get assigned to their dorm room. Some maybe paired up with a fellow newbie or one who has been at the academy for a long while. The dorms are located at the east wing which is the largest part of the school other than the sportsmanship building. Girls upstairs, boys downstairs.

For the first two weeks everything was going normal. Then things started to feel a bit off. The teachers began to act cold and distant, students slowly start to decrease as time goes on. The characters soon realize that there is something up. Eventually, they start looking into things. As they searched for clues to what is going the characters start to form a group. And this does not go unnoticed.

Terrible accidents began to occur. Objectives falling from out of nowhere, cars nearly running you over or being locked in the cafeteria freezer etc. A couple of months of fighting off attackers and near death experiences things go quiet once again. Just when we think they'll be able to have a break the dean plans their demise.

One afternoon the dean announces that he'll be drawing names of students. The winners will be going on a five month marine research boat trip across the Pacific and Atlantic ocean. He then calls out the names over the intercom to report to the office. Even though it seemed like a great opportunity the scary thing about it all those involved investigating the school were the ones who were called.

Without being able to say good-bye, everyone of the characters were forced to pack their belongings. Board the vessel the very next day. When they thought things would go south immediately they were shocked when just the opposite happens. For a while they learned a lot about marine life and other cool facts. This went on for several weeks when the obvious happens.

One morning the teens woke up to find that they are alone. The teachers, boat crew gone! While the teens searched the entire boat for any clues they come across a note left on the captain's cabin door. The letter was signed by the dean.To sum up the letter it pretty much states: the boat is on auto pilot leading them to their finale destination, Cobalt Island, if anyone attempts to disable it or turn the boat around it'll explode. It also tells then the room that was originally locked is open. There they'll find supplies. Not wanting to chance fate did what the letter told them.

A few days later the island came into view. When the boat crashed onto the shoreline the teens gathered up what they could carry onto the beach. Once everyone was off the boat and some distance away the boat explodes giving them no hope in returning home. Now they most find all means to survive the unknown. Even if it meant fighting those around them.

MagicAndDance Character:
Name: Esttin Cavali
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Race: Caucasian
Skin Color/Tone: Fair skinned.
Hair and Style: Long, straight blonde hair, generally in a high-band or flat
Eyes: Dark Green
Weight and Height: 61.24 kilograms/1.67 metres (135lbs/5'10")
Personality: Esttin is a young woman, she is very bright and sweet. She is also very naïve and gullible, and so she can be lead astray easily, by anyone who means her harm. She is very trusting and doesn't see bad things in others, focusing on the bright side whenever she can. Esttin is also very stubborn, and refuses to give up things that are important to her, such as hope and a constant smile.

Background: Esttin came from a poorer family, but they rose in status because of luck and hard work on her parents side, she was 10 when they joined what was called the middle-class and she learned from their struggles. She remembers staying up, late at night, when her parents used to fight, and staying curled up in her bed, listening. She hates when they fought, and always tried to keep them happy, unmeaningly causing more tense in their relationship. Esstin never understood that their divorce was not her fault, and even when they took the chance to raise in status, she could not forget their arguments. For a few months after her parents had paid for a new house and a car, they didn't fight, and life at home was peaceful. Esstin hoped life would stay that way, but her hope was for a hopeless cause. Her parents divorce when she was 14, and her world seem to shatter and crumble around her. Her Mother moved out of the family's house, and Esttin followed her. She spent the next four years of her life travelling between her Mother and Father house, living with both of them. She did continue to succeed at her school and she continued to hope for a very good life.

Ability(s) and Other Skills: Esstin doesn't have many special skills. She knows how to bandage a few injuries and how to cheer others up. Her true skill lies in her ability to see the good in any situation or person. Esttin has the ability to bend energy to her will. Everything living has energy, and she can pull from that to create two whips, two ropes of energy usable for combat. The amount of energy drained from a person or thing is equal to the energy drained from her, so if she uses the same amount of energy she has in her body she will die. This energy only drains from her and others when it's used to do something. If she's using it as a display of power, it won't drain any energy, because all she does is funnel the existing energy into a large rope and allow others to see it. She is also threatened by emotion, if she has vulnerability when she uses her power, it's possible it can consume her, and it will fight and kill anything around her until everything is dead, or she is dead. The energy shows itself in a colour as she uses it, depending on where she draws it from.

Further Information:
Archer Bay Academy: The school is a few years old, but the building is over 120 years old. Some features are renewed. Like plumbing, fixtures, extensions etc. The school is located in Lahaina, Hawaii. The original bedrooms where turned into dorms. Girls upstairs boys down stairs two per room, dorms are located at the east wing. The sporting area is much larger than the school. The academy sits on his own beach and the front gate hidden by the natural grown forest even finding the path can be difficult.

Cobalt Island: Tropical just like Hawaii, but has no volcanoes. Mostly covered by high top trees that you can find in the amazon jungles. A lot of the animals and plants are similar from both regions but many look like creatures from horror stories and myths. The salt water surrounding the island are invested with sharks. The island isn't listed on any map and yet isn't hidden by any mist/fog. The dean and staff had placed cameras around the island to record events (though they a hard time in doing so because of the locals). Why, no one knows for certain other than those who placed the cameras there.

Islanders: You would think they were would be savage like, like on TV. The islanders have a more modern behavior, just no technology. They are very secretive so aren't very open in helping out those who supposedly are stranded. They attack those who pose a threat but usually they just keep a watchful eye. Yet, just like most humans you have those who don't think but react do to past experiences.

Some Villages on Cobalt Island: Yahtuk is a small village that is surrounded by trees. Most of the homes are craved within the trees then built outward. Yaktuk is known as the old time village for the people there prefer to stick to tradition. The villages raise dogs, and messenger birds. They also great at hunting and basket weaving. For being so small and not having very many people Yahtuk tends to be hardly noticed. Though people from the other villages flock it in the spring/summer months for the views and cool water springs surrounding it. Liore is the largest village on Cobalt, it's also deals mostly with politics, education and handles most of the islands population. Liore is also known for it's bakeries, libraries and fashion sense.

Cobalt Island Creatures:
Prowlers- werewolf like creatures but tailless, short hide legs, long sloth like arms with four inch claws, lastly they have a face of a nearly hairless bear. Most prowlers are grey or dark brown to blend into their surroundings. They spend most of their time prowling hence the name, once they find their prey they won't loose sight of it. Prowlers live in the mountain terrain and or anti-social unless it's breeding season. They normally come out at night for the sun is hard of their eyes, yet they are nearly blind at night so they relay on scent and hearing.

Jinxees- twin tailed fox like creature, they are slightly smaller than a cat. Shy little critters they are but friendly; they live underground or in tree holes close to the ground. Jinxees live in packs size varies from just five to over thirty. Jinxees prefer to come out during daylight but some mostly come out at night. They are usually light brown, white, or cream in color with white and/or black markings. They eat mice, birds, etc.

Raptors- predator birds, wings are bat like, they have razor sharp teeth, size of a full grown turkey, sharp claws on tips of wings and talons. They live in a flock of hundreds, up in the mountains. They hunt in parties or ten or more they are clumsy flyers but fast climbers. They hunt anytime of the day or night and they aren't very smart.

(Other than that the animals on the island are the same animals we see everyday. Such as horses, wolf/husky like dogs, parrots, owls, cows, pigs, chickens, and jungle like animals etc. P.S. I will add more info and/or characters later.)

Esttin twitched as the room got very quiet, she didn’t like quiet. Not because she didn’t like no noise, but because all their energies were buzzing, everyone was feeling something strong. If she had to take a guess, she would say nervous, or excitement. She looked around the table as everyone sat very quietly, she was wondering if any of these people would become her friend, or if none of them were really friendly. She had refocused on the boy with the strange energy when the teacher began to talk.

He introduced himself, and said something about being a homeroom teacher, not a term that meant much to Esttin, but so be it. He seemed proud of himself, fixing his tie and standing up a bit straighter. Esttin raised an eyebrow in disbelief at the teacher, but said nothing. He was weird, and she didn’t think she’d like him all that much. He was a bit funny, and she knew she wouldn’t last long in a class with him without laughing.

Then he nodded at the first boy, allowing him to introduce himself. Esttin was interested in this, she thought she might like this boy, his energy was interesting, and she’d like to get to know him. At least, she thought she did. He didn’t seem overly annoying or rude, just a little bit. She turned her eyes on the boy and listened, noting his name first, Silas. What an interesting name.

She might’ve missed his next few sentences had she not been listening closely, to decide if she would befriend him. But his pointed threats, whether they were for her or not, bothered her. She felt uncomfortable, not wanting to sit near Silas anymore. He was a bit creepy, talking about violence. Esttin hated violence, she preferred when people got along, and there was no violence or fighting.

As Silas finished, Esttin gave him a disapproving look. He most likely wouldn’t care what she thought, but she couldn’t believe he would say something like that! The energy from the other boy, the large one, had picked up, and drawn Esttin’s attention off Silas. Something was going on in this boy’s head, and that worried Esttin. She knew if she got involved in any fighting, she would most likely be sent home, and she didn’t want to go home. Not that she would be injured, with her unique ability. Esttin raised her hand slightly, so she could talk. She used her hand more as a signal that she would talk, not in asking permission to talk. She rarely asked permission unless she was in a classroom, and this certainly wasn’t a classroom.

“Ciao, my name is Esttin, and I don’t have a nickname,” she stressed the last part and gave Silas a glare, before smiling brightly again, “I don’t generally get into fights, I don’t like violence. I love animals, all animals. Except bees. Those things are creepy.” She finished, supporting her chin on her interlaced fingers again. She didn’t have much to say, and while she could talk for hours, she was feeling uncomfortable in this environment, and she didn’t want to prolong it. She did, however, have a few words for Silas, which she said in a quiet whisper, to avoid the others understanding what she was saying.

“Can you not start fights with him? He’s a fair bit…” she paused, searching for the right word, “larger than you. Don’t be stupid.” Esttin said. She didn’t want anyone to get in trouble, especially in a group this small, they should all be friends and look out for each other, but she doubted that would happen. She had resolved herself to making friends with Silas though, he had interesting energy, and she doubted he would be a big issue if he decided to fight her. She would whip him. Literally.

It didn't take long for everyone to complete the form. Everyone was quiet. Silas thought the new comers would be talkative. At first he thought they were mad at each other but the look on their faces didn't show any sign of anger. They were content. Happy in their own way. Maybe the weak built teacher had a word with them before coming in. Though he didn't seem the type to hold and power over anyone. Whatever the care Silas was enjoying the peace

Mr. Drake took the forms examining through each page swiftly before carefully slipping them into his shoulder bag. Silas got a glimpse of a laptop edge. Or it could have been something else. Silas isn't all to familiar with the tech-world. Sure in his old schools Silas had to use computers to write up reports and look information up for assignments. No one took him seriously on the fact he can't technology. In his last school he caused one computer to get so confused that it started to shimmer, and two others he busted by punching the screens in. After that he was banned from toughing anything that ran on electricity. Of course, he does own a cell phone and an ipod. Anything else just goes to waste. He prefers nature and books and among other things.

Silas picked up his bag placing on the table in front of him. He was ready to get moving. Sitting down for long periods of time causes him to get restless. If nothing new happens in six seconds he'll leave. One Mississippi, two Mississippi... Silas almost made it to six Mississippi when Mr. Drake spoke once again.

"Before I take on a tour let us introduce one another. Also, lets share a few things about one another. Since there's so few of you this shouldn't take too long. I will go first to get you guys started. As you I am Mr. Drake, I am one of few homeroom teacher's here at ABA." He said while fixing his tie in a proud manor. Silas bets this guy had been bullied all his life so that's why he's putting himself first; he may also be on those teachers who makes things hard on his students. "So, who would like to go next." Mr. Drake asked looking the four of them.

Silas raised his hand giving it a quick flick of the wrist. Mr. Drake noticed giving a nod of approval. Silas took a quick second to think on what to say. Soon he figured it out he straightened himself out before speaking.

"The names Silas. I was nicknamed Ookami Akuma back in my old home town and there's a reason for it. Piss me off you'll end up in shreds. Don't get my wrong but I am no delinquent, people just like to provoke me. I just finish what they start." Silas said, mostly telling the jock at the other end of the table how he handle things before he starts anything. All the while that guy smirked. Silas could see the wheels turning in his head already plotting something.

Esttin smiled kindly at the boy before her mind registered traces of energy. It was growing stronger, so either it was a very quickly growing thing, or someone moving towards her. She was surprised at the sudden influx, as though the energies were moving quite fast, or they were very excited.

She turned her head to see three people walk in, a lanky, stick-like teacher, she assumed, because he didn't look as young as a student would be. Beside him entered two others, a boy and a girl. The boy was wide, not because he was fat, but because he was strong, probably a sports player, he seemed to be a dull minded sort of person, though Esttin didn't know him, so she decided not to judge. The girl looked similar to the people she normally was friends with, normal, perfect, and beautiful. Most likely vain and vapid.

She wondered briefly if they were siblings or dating before focusing on their energies. The girl's spoke, or thought, in a high octave voice, with short, clipped sounds. While the boy's was a deeper, longer lasting thought.

Energies didn't actually talk, not so much anymore, their voices faded as one grew used to them, but they still thought, or felt, just not in words, more in sounds.

As the teacher talked, Esttin tried to listen, but the boy's energy and the energy of the other two was very distracting, so she caught little of what he said. He had given them forms, so she filled it out, not knowing exactly what these were for, but copying the people around her, who were most likely paying attention.

As she finished she focused in on the teacher's energy, it seemed weak at first, more willing to sit in the background and whine about not being used than trying to gain attention. Esttin had often found energies reflected their owners, and she came to the conclusion this teacher wasn't a very confrontational type, though she could be wrong. She didn't spend much more time on his energy, deeming it unimportant, and returned to analyzing the first boy's energy, it's exotic qualities calling to her.

The girl sat there studying Silas. He kept still not answering her question about being rude. The way she grinned and the sound of her voice irritated him. No one is ever that happy. Unless she's one of those types who puts on an act or always so bubbly. He's not use to people like her. All his life Silas was either surrounded by serious and/or judgmental types. He was almost tempted to pull out his notebook again. Though he had lost interest in. He wants to see where this leads. For this was far more intriguing.

They stared one another for a bit longer. The way the girl was studying him had him thinking to what she was thinking. Oddly he's never been this curious about another person in a long while. Not a moment later she said that something that brought Silas aback. She liked his eyes. Silas smirk disappeared. Eyes widened a little surprised.

She went back to being silent acting as though she was picking up vibes of some sort. This caused Silas to raise an eyebrow. He hopes she's not one those types who claim to see someone's aura. He just hopes that she isn't going to blab her mouth on it. Then try to convince him to join coo-coo clan things well be fine.

The sound of foot steps caught Silas' attention. Silas turned his head slightly to listen. There was a dozen of them treading through the halls. There was no bell so either it was staff or skippers. A couple came their way. Two... maybe four set of feet nearing the door. Soon three people walked in. Two were teens, a boy and a girl. The other appeared to be a nerdy teacher. He was small built and wore glasses. The boy was a sports player, his posture told Silas he thinks highly of himself. The girl was fashionable and appeared to have "I don't care" attitude. Great! Theses are the type of people Silas hates most. Though he will never hit a girl unless it was necessary; the guy well one wrong word Silas just might take a swing.

The staff member who was with them said something gesturing to the table The girl and Silas were sitting. The three moved slowly towards them. Silas looked away from them resting his right check on a fist, staring at them from the corner of his eye. He just wants this to be over with.

Soon the two teens sat down the staff welcomed himself. "Hello. I am Mr. Drake. The dean wanted to be here but had a meeting to attend too. So I volunteered in his place. Please take a form to fill and a handbook. Be sure to read through everything so there won't be any mistakes."

Silas reluctantly took a form and pulled his pencil out from his bag. Silas didn't bother taking a handbook. The rules are pretty much the same everywhere. Silas quickly went through the form filling in his name, address and such. The rest he read carefully before writing anything down. Once he was finished he slid the form off to the side. Then waited for the rest to finish.
Esttin blinked as the boy gave her a smirk. How rude. He was just sitting there staring at her, causing her to wonder if his mother ever taught him that staring was rude. Then, with a bright smile, she flipped her hair over her shoulder and leaned forward, setting her chin on the slightly curled fingers of her left hand. Her elbow was supporting her head, sitting on the table. It was from this position that she giggled, his eyes were two different colours! How strange.

“You know, if you had wanted to be rude, you could’ve just continued drawing.” She pointed out, a bit rudely, but with a gorgeous smile. Her voice was high, but not squeaky, so while she talked like most annoying girls, she didn’t carry that voice, so she was often considered less annoying. Esttin finished off her statement with a laugh and a slight tilting of her head, looking at his eyes.

She found his eyes to be fascinating. Two different colours, yellow and blue, they were quiet pretty, though a bit unnerving at first. As she tilted her head, her hair fell over her shoulder, since she was relaxed and they were not tense and up. Esttin hated her hair on the front of her right shoulder, and flipped it back again. No matter how she tried to control it, it kept falling over her shoulder. It was just too long, and sometimes it acted up.

“I like your eyes.” She said, shifting to place her right elbow on the table. She interlaced her fingers and rested her chin on them, still watching the boy, though her smile had faded into a look of fascination. She didn’t want to be rude, so she would talk, and she certainly considered it, however, rude people didn’t just get a free pass, they had to be nice first, and that’s what Esttin expected.

She first noted the silence of the room, her voice being the only sound, and it echoed, bouncing off the walls. The echo wasn’t enough to hear her voice again, as one would in a large canyon, but it was enough that she seemed to drag out her words, though she actually did not. She didn’t have sharp hearing, but she was a bit confused as to the complete silence of the school. Everything seemed to be missing, the commotion of school, the talking of classes, even the annoying bells that rang to announce classes.

The second thing she noted, past the boy, was the lack of energies she had felt around, not even so much as a plant. She had been surrounded by the slow-moving energies of trees, they seemed infinitely old, so much power, but power that no one could access because of the slowness at which they moved, almost as if they were in slow motion. Other animals had different speeds, chipmunks and squirrels were quick, sharp bursts of energy, they flipped in and out of her radar normally, causing a slight commotion in the background. However, even now there were no small creatures making noise. The only energy she had felt were the office woman’s and the boy she was sitting across from.

The boy’s energy was strange, similar to the bursts of energy from the creatures she felt most, but it was sustained. His energy called to her as all energies did, a voice she was used to ignoring or not listening to. His energy was different from most people she met, it was exotic, similar to how one would feel when asked to try a new thing from a different cultural place. Interesting, tempting, and a bit scary. Esttin had met a few people like this before, but they were always considered to be a “bad crowd” and she didn’t spend time around them. It caused her to wonder if this boy was also like them. It would not be fun to be the only good new student, she would have a lot of classes with him, and her parents wouldn’t be very happy about that.

It was quiet. Almost too quiet to feel comfortable. Even though this was a school it's never this silent especially when it's in session. Silas narrowed his eyes not liking the fact. With his wolf like hearing he could hear a pin dropping at the end of hall.

Bored Silas took out a empty notebook and a pencil. He started to doodle really the only thing he could draw. Kittens. He loved so much as a kid that he took up drawing them. As long as he worked slow on the picture he can get relatively well. Other things he has to either look at an image or have the image fresh in his head. Silas started off drawing the eyes then the nose before working out the face. As he drew Silas hadn't notice someone entering the cafeteria until that person spoke.

Silas didn't look up from his drawing right off. He kept his gaze so avoid eye contact. Silas never done well being around people. Even as a kid he would rather sit away in a corner to watch them. He doesn't like being alone. But usually people give him grief. Mostly over the color of his eyes. He was born with bi colored eyes which isn't so uncommon. His left eye tends to drive people away when they realize it's real.

Now that he is older it doesn't bother him as much. To what people have to say and criticize. Most people when they get teased and bullied grow up either scared and weak all their lives or find confidence and strive for what they believe. Silas has the confidence, but has no goal to strive for yet.

After a few minutes of sketching out the fur detail on the kitten's face Silas decided to stop being rude and put his notebook away. He closed it up and stuffed it carefully into his bag. All the while keeping his eyes closed. He likes to make people think. To wonder. He doesn't know the reason for it. Being a creative type thinking is something he liked to do. So, his guess is that maybe he wants them to think creative thoughts as well. But that sounds a bit odd even for him.

After fiddling with the stuff in his bag Silas finally looked up opening his eyes. The girl had a smile on her face which slowly disappeared. As her smile vanished he gaze a cocky smirk. He kept silent though for he had nothing to say. He sat there with his hands folded over on another staring at the girl's face. Curious to what she had to say.

“Yeah, yeah madre! I’m coming!” Esttin called, frowning at her doorway. Her hair was pulled up into a high-tail, and her makeup was starting to smudge, around the eyes. It didn’t look half-bad, and Esttin didn’t have the time to fix it anyways. She was wearing a skirt, and a plain shirt. She wanted to look normal, not professional, but not as though she had just come in off the streets. She had picked her outfit carefully, it had taken her hours the night before. She had spent the past ten minutes packing a bag for her new school, no knowing if they had uniforms or not. Her mother was rushing her, as always, in an attempt to not be late.

Her father was the one who was always late, like he was today. He didn’t live that far away, about a ten minute drive, but somehow he managed to make it take an hour. Esttin was convinced he drove around in circles to check out the neighbourhood or something before he pulled up. He was always concerned about people stealing his car. Not that anyone would, his car was 43 years old, barely running, and horribly beat-up. But he insisted that it would continue running, and continue running it did. Until today.

Her father had called this morning, in tears, to tell them that he would have to walk, unless they wanted to pick him up. Her mother and father had gotten in another fight. It was all they did. Any excuse they could find to argue was taken, whether it was bills, pets, the weather, or Esttin herself. All throughout her life, they had argued. There isn’t one time she could think of where her parents didn’t fight. Sometimes they lasted a couple of minutes before getting into an argument, but it rarely lasted longer than that. She was used to it by now, and the sound of her mother’s voice raising didn’t perturb Esttin.

With a glance up from over-stuffing her small black suitcase, she noticed the time. It took her a second to realise that they were going to be late if they didn’t leave right now! She sat on the top of her bag and started to tug the zipper, partially concerned it would break. Then, when she had climbed off the bag and determined it wouldn’t break just yet, she pulled it off her bed and ran at full speed downstairs, almost stepping on her cat.

With a hiss and a gruff ‘meow’ her cat darted up the stairs and into her mother’s room. Esttin took a second to smile at the angry, old cat. She had grown up with that cat, it was actually 2 years older than her. She loved it, even though the cat was warm to no one, and often scared off guests. Her attention was pulled back to the situation when her mother came around the corner.

Her mother’s hair was sticking up, frizzed and in knots. Her makeup was even worse than Esttin’s, and her lipstick was smeared, giving her mother the appearance of a clown. A sad clown. Esttin smiled at her mother, and then pointed to the large clock they had in the middle of their salon wall. Her mother frowned and looked at the clock, taking a second to convert the roman numerals into something she understood. Then she grabbed Esttin and began talking at high-speed, headed towards the door.

She was going on about her father being late, or maybe her cat hiding? Esttin wasn’t really paying much attention. She had inherited that ability from her father, the ability to ignore her mother. But, Esttin had also gotten her talking from her mother, and would talk for hours if no one stopped her. Just as her mother was opening the door, a large man made his way onto their drive-way: Esttin’s father.

Her father had dark brown hair, it was always unruly, and tended to fly about, his eyes were a dark green, and his nose was large. She didn’t know why her parents had been together, her father was a large man, about as big around as he was tall, and her mother was tall, lean, and completely different. Instead of brown hair, her hair was as bright as the sun, blonde, long, normally under control. Her eyes were large and bright blue. Her face, unlike Esttin’s father’s, was usually in a scowl, she rarely smiled, but she wasn’t mean. Esttin had gotten the looks of her mother, but the temperament of her father.

As they piled into the car, her mother driving so it wouldn’t take all day, Esttin clipped her belt and the car rolled forward, onto the road. Esttin didn’t like car rides, they made her sick, and her mother always took it as a chance to talk about the dangers of everything, while her father wanted to sing songs. This invariably lead to a fight, in which her mother would yell about the importance of teaching Esttin what is safe and what is not, and her father would yell about the importance of family time.

Lucky, they seemed to be quiet this time, and Esttin stared out the window of the unusually silent car. Her parents hadn’t said a word after a terse greeting outside the car, so they both sat there, either sulking, as her father was, or fuming, as her mother was. No matter what the situation, they hated being together, especially in confined spaces.

While Esttin was unnerved by the continued silence of the car, she tried to ignore it, thinking about what school might be like, or whether she would know anyone. Esttin often made friends fast, so she doubted she would have any trouble at this new school. She watched the houses pass by, and then stared at the sun. People aren’t meant to stare at the sun, but Esttin didn’t listen, she liked doing it, it made spots in her vision that gave her something to look at.

Sometime during the car ride, Esttin had fallen asleep, and was awoken by a jarring stop and a yelling match emanating from the front seat. Though groggy and still waking up, Esttin looked out the window and was surprised to see a forest. Then, she saw the sign, Archer Bay Academy. She had finally gotten here.

“Bye madre, padre! Ciao!” she shouted, after undoing her belt and leaning forward to kiss them both on the cheek. She was eager and ready to go, having woken up when she saw the sign. She didn’t want to hear the arguing anymore, but she would miss her parents. That wouldn’t deter her, she was headed to Archer Bay and she would be the best student there.

As she pushed open the door and pulled her suitcase out, she laughed and waved at her mother, shutting the car door, almost slamming, and starting off towards the front door of the school. She didn’t realise it would take long to get to the front of the school, and started off at a fairly fast pace. However, by the time she was barely half-way there, she was tired and annoyed at the length she had to walk.

“Who puts a school in the middle of the forest?” she yelled, angrily. Her voice was loud, and nothing returned the call, so Esttin was a bit scared of her own voice. After she took a few deep breaths, and calmed herself, she began again, this time not moving so fast as to get tired and annoyed again. Because of her ability to calm herself down, she rarely had any close-calls with her ability, and was generally pretty safe when it came to using it.

As she finally approached the school, she noticed it looked abandoned. No one was around, there were no people or adults, just a lonely school. Weird. However, ignoring the weird feeling she got, she wandered into the school, and looked around. She was looking mainly at the walls, the pillars and such. This school was definitely not originally a school. Her first that was of hauntings. Every old house ever was haunted, so why not this one?

As soon as she noticed the sign to the office, she followed it, and soon came to the office, where a busy woman sat, typing and doing stuff on the phone. Esttin didn’t want to interrupt, but what was she going to do, she had no idea where to go. Esttin slowly walked up to the woman, giving her a smile, even though she wasn’t noticed by the woman until she was almost on top of her.

“Hello I’m a new student,” Esttin began, intending to ask where she should go, but she got quiet when the woman glared at her and started talking, interrupting and silencing Esttin. She gave her terse, short instructions on where to go and wait. Then, without waiting for a reply, returned to her work, completely ignoring Esttin.

With a frown, Esttin followed her directions to the cafeteria, pausing before entering the door and listening for people. Esttin didn’t like large groups of people, she could feel their energies, and it was always hard to deal with. She had grown better with it over the years, but sometimes it was too much.

Surprisingly, there were no voices, in fact, she could only sense the energy of one thing. She knew it wasn’t a tree, but past that, it could just be a fern or a house-plant. She tentatively stepped through the doors and looked around, seeing a person across the room, sitting at a table. Since they were the only ones, maybe they were the only new people?

She walked over to greet the boy, giving him a dashing smile, and sliding in across from him, waving her hand in a wave.

“Hello!” she chimed.

The weather was nice and warm. Typical for this time of year. It was nearing autumn usually the storms are mild, there are times when it's humid or too windy but lots of times it's perfect. Silas took a breath of air enjoying his walk on the beach. People flocked the shoreline also taking advantage of the weather. Silas carried his black combat like boots in one hand leaving the other free. On days like this he normally wore knee high shorts made out lightly made material and a light colored t-shirt. Today though he wore his black jeans, black tank top, and a pull over.

His reason, today was the day he was heading to boarding school. So, there was no time to change into different clothing. Not only that he was sulking. In the last two years of being tutored, having a lot of time on his hands in doing what he wanted this will ruin most of his daily life. He doesn't like sounding negative but all teenagers hate it when their future is chosen for them. Silas' grandfather has already planned his life out. For the time being, since there is no convincing the old geezer.

Silas continued walking along the shore for another ten minutes before returning to his home. Silas slipped his boots on before stepping onto the pavement. The walk was quick, for his home was only a few blocks away. Even though he doesn't see eye to eye with his grandfather on a lot of things, they do have some agreements. Such as allowing Silas to live on his own in a studio condo a few weeks at a time. Silas had already packed a travel bag last night. He filled it mostly with clothes not knowing if the school is requiring students to wear uniforms.

Silas sat at his desk looking at the clock. An hour until his ride comes. He sat there looking around his little home taking it all in. It wasn't new or old. It had it's upsides and downsides. It was perfect. It was his little get away from the outside world. From his grandfather, from everything. Silas had packed most of his stuff, gave perishable foods away to his neighbors and covered the furniture with sheets. He isn't worried about any important being stolen. He made sure not to buy anything expensive. He didn't like to show off the amount money he has in the bank. It's just asking for trouble.

The only expensive thing owns is his ipod. It cost no more than $300. Thinking on it Silas pulled it out and turned it on. He plugged his ears with the ear buds. Listening to a few songs which helped lift his spirits. In no time it was time to leave. A black sedan pulled up front of his condo. Silas got up and gathered up his stuff. Then left, locking the door before heading to the car. He got in tossing his bag in first.

Soon he was in the car took off. The drive took a good two hours since they had to drive across the island. Silas didn't pay much attention the world outside. It would remind him that his adventures outside would cease for the time being. When the car finally came to a complete stop. He was here. The entrance to his prison.

He got out dragging his stuff with him. He gave two taps on the trunk hood letting the driver know he could go. The car drove off disappearing around the corner. Silas looked down the tree covered trial. It was a seven minute walk from the mouth of the trial to the gate. Silas started his way down the path, head held high. He walked slow but not slow enough. He made it to the partly opened gate no one was around. School was probably in session for it was a Wednesday.

He walked up the the building. It looked like one of those old mansions, but somethings seemed new about as well. He entered the lobby, this surely use to be a mansion. The lobby was similar to that of his grandfather's place. Two sets of stairs lead upstairs. Pillars lined the walls. Strangely it started to feel more like home than a prison. Silas made a face at the thought.

As he glanced around there was a sign with an arrow pointing up one set of stairs which read "office". Silas went upstairs soon he walked the last few steps there was a set of doors off to the side. The plate nailed on the wall read "office". Silas blinked surprised to how simple this school seemed. He opened the office walking in. There was a person sitting at a desk. She looked up soon he walked in.

"New student?" She asked tapping some paper on the desk then carefully filed them away.

Silas nodded in reply.

"I see, you must then go to the cafeteria to meet and greet yourself to the other new students. A staff member will be there shortly to give you a tour after you feel out some resignations forms. You'll find the cafeteria back down the stairs, take a left walk down it and there at the end you'll find where you need to be." After saying that the lady started to type something on the computer and dialed some numbers.

Seeing that she was busy Silas left without thanking her. He followed the directions that he was told. Finding the cafeteria easily. As he walked the school he made a mental note to where things are located. Doing so will come in handy later. The doors to the cafeteria was wide open. This helped to make things feel more inviting. Silas walked in finding the room completely empty. Either he was the first one here or he was the only new student. Whatever the case Silas didn't mind.

He sat down at a table with papers and handbooks stacked neatly at one end. He let his bag fall with a thump. It's a good thing Silas knows patience. For now it's time to play the waiting game.
