Santa Paws: 6 Days Left: Magical Rubber Ball!
Started By
Santa Paws his holding daily drawings for special items up until Christmas! These drawings will be posted each day both here, in the news, as well as in Mini Updates/Admin Updates, at some point before midnight. There is one prize per drawing and it's completely up to chance (haha, NOT the companion!) to choose the winner. The rules are simple and they are straightforward, but they are not to be trifled with.

Read the Rules!:
1.) Post ONCE in this thread before Midnight Ala time, on the day the thread is posted in order to be entered into the drawing. (If you post more than once, you may be disqualified from the running)
2.) You may post once per account.
3.) Players found creating more than the 2 allowed accounts to enter these contests will be BANNED from Alacrity; no exceptions. Don't do it -- we hate banning people.
4.) All Alacrity standard rules still apply! If you're not familiar with them, please take some time to do so -- you can find the link at the bottom of every page!
5.) We don't care what your post says, provided you follow the above rules, although Santa Paws is also picking a secondary winner based on criteria listed at the end of this post :)

This drawing will be for: a Magical Rubber Ball

The winner will receive a brand new Magical Rubber Ball, complete with all 5 uses!

P.S. Santa Paws told me he'll pull the next round's second winner based on most interesting holiday tradition. Does your family do something fun? Do you know about an ancient, silly tradition? Post it for a chance to win! :D

My aunt and her family come over to my house on Christmas Day each year. Since its Summer here, we, like a lot of people often opt for a seafood lunch instead of a more "traditional" meal. We also have a long running competition of "who can give the worst gag gifts." xD Past winners have included a floral tea cosy, covered in pom-poms, and a tiny analog clock, which lit up and sung random songs.

Me and my family open our presents Christmas Eve and have our big dinner on Christmas Day.

•Witches and Evil spirits are the greatest broom thieves. The Norwegians once believed that witches and devious spirits were likely to steal their brooms on Christmas Eve. Who knows maybe a mischievous prankster stole a few brooms during that period and the legend stuck.

Krampus is Santa’s evil twin whose job is to beat and punish all the children who have misbehaved. On December 6th men dress up in some of the scariest devil-like costumes you can imagine and drunkenly run around towns hitting people with sticks and switches. The Krampus legend originates in the Germanic alpine regions and is widespread throughout Hungary, Bavaria, Slovenia and is especially popular in Austria.

In Norway, on Christmas Eve, all the brooms in the house are hidden as the Norwegians have an ancient belief that witches and mischievous spirits came out on Christmas Eve and would steal their brooms for to ride the skies.

I only did this once, but my Mexican cousins have a tradition where they hold a pinata party on Christmas Day and New Year's Eve. There's also my family's tradition of opening one gift on Christmas Eve, but I think that got started because my parents got me a new cell phone that year. There's one more tradition I plan on starting this year: making homemade cookies. The cookie I make will be different every year. This year, it's chocolate chip cookies with milk chocolate chips.

Tradition ? Well, actually my sister seems to have some sort of a tradition on Christmas. xD
She usually is a heavy sleeper, and always wakes up last...but she's always the first one up on Christmas at around 6 AM. That is surprising, she gets up before me! ;n;

My family always makes a bulb out of wood, lights it on fire, and hangs it in a crack in the fireplace. It lights the wood under it while it burns, and we do it every Christmas.

Caga Tió, the pooping log, is a bizarre and widespread Christmas tradition in Catalonia. It starts with a hollowed out log, which is propped up on four little leg-like sticks and then painted to have a face. Every night, beginning December 8th, Caga Tió is “fed” and covered with a blanket (so that he doesn’t catch a cold). On Christmas Eve or Christmas day Caga Tió is put in the fireplace, beaten with a stick and ordered to “poop”. He is encouraged, along with the beating, by singing songs with catchy lyrics such as:

caga tió (poop log)
caga torró (poop turrón)
avellanes i mató (hazelnuts and cottage cheese)
si no cagues bé (if you don’t poop well)
et daré un cop de bastó. (I’ll hit you with a stick.)
caga tió!" (poop log!)

When he is done pooping candies, nuts and such, Caga Tió will then give one last push to reveal an onion, a head of garlic or a salt herring.

Belgium boasts not one, but two Santa Clauses, St. Nicholas and Pere Noel. St. Nicholas is the "bad cop" of the duo, and is all about reconnaissance. On Dec 4, he melts into the Belgian shadows to thoroughly investigate the backgrounds of unsuspecting children.

While American Santa conducts his "naughty/nice" tallies up at the North Pole through magic, St. Nick's Belgian operation seems less about enchantment and more about unsavory late-night stakeouts and countless anxiously smoked cigarettes. His methods, while morally disquieting, are effective. By Dec 6, St. Nick has all the dirt, which he passes along to Pere Noel in time for Christmas.

For the nice: presents; the naughty: twigs. Belgian Santa doesn't leave the naughty/nice debate open to interpretation. If you're bad, he takes the time to really rub your nose in it. Still, if he's tailed some poor Walloon kid around for the better part of a weekend, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that the little carebear deserved a handful of dirty sticks for Christmas.

On Christmas Eve in Finland, the entire family puts on their coats and heads to the cemetery to pay respects to the dead with candles and singing, a tribute that doubles as both touching Christmas tradition and traumatizing nightmare for Finnish children.
