My dog Halloween was a fighter. When I found her, She was dressed in a halloween costume. So that is were we got her name. We were walking along going trick or treating, when we found this little pitbull puppie. She was crying and whining. We put her in the car and drove home. In the morning I took her to the vet. Thank goodness. Nothing was wrong with her. we dicided to keep her and name her Halloween. We fed her well and after a little bit she was as if she never had been there, on that, cold October night. She is part of the family. We are happy to have her and her soon to be puppies.

THE END

Grey hovered over a grey, dark path. He briefly glanced over his shoulder from time to time to check if the shimmering outline of a dog was following him. It was his duty to take lost souls to either heaven or hell. This day he was heading upward to heaven. The spirit behind him was glancing around nerviosly and whining softly at being taken through such an odd place, but even at that Grey keep his pace steady and briskly. When he got there he left the spirit in the hands of the dog lord, then he took off with his strong wings into the night sky. As he flew higher and higher while thinking about Halloween.

He planned to dive out of the sky and make him barely vizable as he almost collided with those living dogs and two-legged things though even if he crashed into them, he would just go right through him and leave a very cold chill inside them that only lasted a minute. Then he would throw his head back and howl as long as he could in an ear percing howl that sounded like fingernails scratching a black-board.Then after that...he will impervise. He folded his wings onto his sides in midair and let himself drop from about 1,000 feet in the air. When he almost slammed into the ground he flipped out his wings and fluttered lightly onto the ground like nothing happened. Then he set off for the duty bell rang as another dog lost it's soul.

After a good night's sleep he woke and flew out into a pink and orange morning. He breathed into the cool, clean air for it was Halloween day! He bared his teeth in a snarl trying to look as scary as he could, but he just shrugged and troted off along a stone road. As he came to a bridge between heaven and the real world, his full name sprang into his head like a frog after a pesky fly. He had to suppress a shudder as it popped into his mind in bold letters saying, 'Grey on the Path of Muerte' which means The Grey on the Path of Death in Spanish.

He forgot his deathly name when night befell the town he was in. He his in a tree and stared down upon his scaring subjects and smirked with peasure. He flew silently up into the sky but blending in with the grey sky. They he spotted his target and dove toward the burly border collie and yelled, "BOO!" as he fluttered nose to nose with her. She let out a yelp of suprise and terror and fled. Grey let out a snort of laughter and clawed his way up to the moon while flapping madly. When everyone was staring up at him with petrifyed expressions, then he threw his head back and let out a ear-killing howl. He sniggered as half of them collapsed onto the ground as they fainted. Then he dived down and smashed into the ground and dissapeared. Many people crowded the spot where he easily flowed into the sidewalk. The livings were murmering to one-another and then Grey desided this was the best time to leap out of the ground, bristling madly and have his very deadly sharp teeth bared and snarling as he circled around slowly lunging out at the ones that dared to get closer to him. So that is just what he did.

After the streets were diserted he trotted off toward home, tiered and happy he lay in a soft waving feild of long grass. He rolled over and sighed as the cool wind gently buffeted his fur. Soon after he fell into a peaceful sleep dreaming about the next Halloween. But when he twitched in his sleep, the stalks of the grass next to him trembled violently and then a huge black shape with glowing red slits for eyes rose and loomed over Grey. And then......a screech of terror and then dead silence only filled the air.

No. Please read the objective. It says to write up a halloween-themed short story about one of the dogs in your kennel. The main character should be a dog from your kennel on this game, and you make up the rest. :)

Werewoof paced back and forth in his dog slot. It was the night before Halloween, his favorite day of the year. The time when he stalked around Alacrity, scaring other dogs and humans. He loved to climb on top of other’s kennels and let out long, mournful howls, just to spook all the dogs inside.

So he paced in his kennel, making plans. First he would spook his own kennelmates by running along the top of the kennel so it sounded as if the roof would cave in. Next, he would run around to all his owner’s friends and scare their dogs. As the grand finale, he would fly up in front of the moon so all you could see was his silhouette, and he would let out an ear piercing howl throughout all of Alacrity.

One dog slot over, Night Walker was also making plans. He loved to stalk around town as a shadow and scare the wits out of everyone. One look at his pupil-less brown eyes could send a grown man running. He decided to simply run around Alacrity and stare other dogs in the eye—that ought to scare them.

Eventually, they both grew tired and figured they’d need plenty of rest before their big day. Both curled up in the corner of their slots and fell into a deep sleep. Werewoof dreamt of wreaking havoc on other kennels, while Night Walker dreamt of stalking through the night.

The next morning, they were both awoken by the rest of the kennel’s excitement. All the other dogs at Electrifying Kennels were getting ready for trick-or-treating; trying on costumes, practicing scary noises or making treat bags, everyone was busy!

Werewoof quickly got to work on his technique. He went outside and flew around, warming up his wings. Night Walker stayed inside—he didn’t like daylight, it made him too visible.

Eventually, the owner of the kennel came in and settled them all down and fed them. No one was hungry though. They were all too excited for the big night!

For the rest of the day, the kennel was a mess of costume making and dressing up. It was getting late. Soon it would be time to go trick-or-treating! Night Walker stalked around in his kennel space, practicing his stare. Werewoof stayed outside and practiced his howls and his creepy walk. There wasn’t a single dog who wasn’t busy.

It started to get dark. Everyone had gone out already, except two dogs, lurking in the back of their slots. Werewoof came out first, and took off into the night to begin his routine. Soon after, he was followed by Night Walker, who stalked out into the night and headed for town.

Werewoof flew into the middle of Alacrity, and started chasing, flying over, and stalking over dogs. They all yelped and ran, which made Werewoof howl in excitement. The poor dogs ran back to their kennels and were scared to come back out.

Meanwhile, Night Walker had made it into town, and no one took notice. Perfect he thought, as he spotted his first victim.

Meanwhile, all of Alacrity was in a panic. Most dogs that had been out had ran back to their kennels, scared of the two stalkers. Any dogs that were still out were either being stalked or were on their way home. What a night!

In the end, the only two dogs left out were Werewoof and Night Walker. Werewoof flew around, making sure no one was left, and spotted Night Walkers brown eyes. He landed in front of him and grinned. “We sent the whole town running!” he exclaimed, and Night Walker smiled back.

“Hey” Werewoof said absent-mindedly, a plan forming in his mind. “I have an idea.”

And with that, he grabbed Night Walker be the scruff of his neck with his huge talons, and took off into the night. Night Walker yelped in confusion, but eventually saw what Werewoof was doing. Werewoof flew up in front of the moon, visible to all of Alacrity, and let out a long, loud, mournful howl. Under him, Night Walker let out a few yelps, then howled in sync with Werewoof. All of Alacrity looked up and saw the duo, howling their hearts out. It really was a night to remember.

Word Count: 716

Haha What version of Word are you using? Mine's the recent one (2007 maybe?) and displays words at the bottom. I think I remember it displaying characters automatically. Word is finicky.

Now I'm really hoping it's 2500 WORDS not characters, cause if it's characters I'm going to have to seriously slim down my entry O.O

Editedit: Phew! Words. Awesome. And thanks Kaeli for upping the word count! Cause I'm decidedly not succinct in my story writing and trying to fit a story into 1000 words might just have killed me. Actually, I'm at 1000 words now and haven't even developed a plot yet. XD *wordywordy*

Whispers, your word count is around 500. Your character count is 2473. I double checked yours cause mine looked so much longer, but is listed as around 1000 words thus far. Now I'm wondering if it's a maximum of 2500 words or 2500 characters? Larth?

Oh, I should probably add that my word count is 2,473 and the dogs in my kennel that it is about are Ridley and Kaiaphar. I dunno if that information is necessary but that probably makes it easier for you ^_^

As soon as the full moon had begun to rise, bathing the Halloween night in milky light, a fog swept in. It devoured the form of a borzoi bitch who made her way along a dark path, her eyes darting from bush to bush, expecting something to leap out at her. The night was loud – crickets buzzing in the grass, unseen owls cooing from somewhere above, the flutter of batwings overhead – and that only worsened the hound’s anxieties. She was certain that she would be unable to hear any footsteps that might approach her from behind.

Why she was so uneasy, she was not entirely sure. She typically had a strong constitution and was not perceptible to paranoia. There were countless puppies trick-or-treating that night, and all of them were probably being more courageous than her. But they’re all in well-lit suburbs, she told herself, there’s nothing unknown in that darkness.

Her surroundings were gnarled trees and vast fields of tall grass. Behind her, at the very end of the path, she could just make out her kennel and the candles flickering in the windows. It would be quite a long walk before she saw the lit windows of her destination, where the Halloween party was being held.

As she studied her home, debating whether to return and spend the night by the fireplace, a large shadow crossed her path, momentarily blocking her view.

Her lips rose and she let out a growl that turned into a whine as the shape moved into the moonlight.

It was another borzoi, white with piercing eyes. His markings were mottled yellows and greys, but she could hardly make them out under all of the creatures in his fur. There were fleas and lice coating him from head to toe, but those were only the beginning of the horrors. Spiders with mouths glistening with poison made webs in his ears. Fat maggots writhed on his back, accompanied by their many-winged parents. There were roaches tangled in the fur of his tail, bloated crickets riding on his mangy skin, serpentine centipedes and millipedes wrapped around his slender limbs like jewelry…

She cowered so low that the furs of her stomach brushed the gravel. “I-I like your Halloween costume,” she stammered.

“Costume?” he asked. His voice was like the clicking of mandibles, as though he had become more like his invertebrate companions than a dog. “What is your name?”

“R-Ridley,” she replied, and made an attempt to stand straight once more, but her legs refused to support the weight of her fear.

“It’s dangerous for a bitch like you to be out so late tonight, Ridley. I recommend you return home.”

“Yes, that sounds like a good idea,” Ridley agreed. Forget Halloween parties, she decided, taking off at full speed towards the safety of her house with her tail between her legs. After running into such a monstrosity within sight of her home, she did not want to imagine what else lurked in the darkness. Reaching her doorstep, she turned to look over her shoulder just in time to see the nightmarish thing give her a smile and disappear into the shadows.
