Yes, there's a lot of Mint, Blue, Green, and a whole lot of Purple, it's just about finding the right shade. My two pups have all markings filled, so they were mirrored, hopefully boosting their chances of having look-alike pups. (Other than their base and color, they have the same coats. XD)... A majority of my dogs' pup predicts are either purple or yellow, but all are adorable.
Just something to make you think about. You don't want to hurry and make a custom just because they're cool and they're out. If anything, you want to wait until you can get the best one possible. There's barely any point in making something that isn't going to pass as many traits as possible, right?

It's okay, I'm pretty paranoid about that kind of stuff as well. ^^ My first time sending over a dog made me very jumpy and nervous. But it was all fine. I had a dog that I sent over to be maxed and it took so long I thought they had taken him, but they were just taking a while to max him. Smoothie should be a breeze to max, his stats are nothing compared to what I normally have to do xD

If you equip it to a dog before breeding, the dog will have four pups, no more, no less. Same for the Dingo. Equip to a female, you get female pups. Equip it to a male, and you'll get male pups.
I have a Red Kangaroo, Black and Tan Dingo, and a Black sitting duck. ;)

To me, it may just depend on one thing: if you'll regret it. You will have more rare list pets (which, depending on the pet, could be pretty hard to find), but if you regret trading it, don't trade it.

Trade your doubles. Trading pets is a lot easier than auctioning them. Trade them for Ala money, and use that to buy bones.
If you're saving up, I suggest saving as much bones as possible.
You should try to sell things though. I got like 60 bones a week or two ago from selling items and CS pets. (Those items I offered for the toxic, they all sold for bones)
I only 22 bones, and I'm saving them for 2 September list pets (who are 10 bones each).
You can try selling CS pets or ala stuff. I got a lot of bones and cash from selling my stuff.
I'm sorry, but I save up bones for rare list pets I need on CS (I'm trying to get one of each Halloween and October pet).
