if you are wanting a pet get a pet...however, there is a big difference between american lined AKC show line GSDs and German Working line GSDs. so it would be best to reseach and find out what best works for you. A good breeder will ask you question on what you want the dog for how active the family is how often the dog will be out in public etc. and from there a good breeder will temperment the test and find you the best puppy suited for your life style..cause you wont want a dog with so much high drive you don't know what to do with it and you would want the shy puppy if you don't know much about socialization. so talking and getting to know your breeder is a great place to start and meeting the parents of the pups to see if you even like what they look like and how they act. Picking the cutest puppy isn't always a great idea and a good breeder wont let you either. Making sure your dog come from a good breeder means you should get heath guards, information and life time help and advice from your breeder about anything to do with your puppy even later down the road in his/or her life

haha ya my family is more into small dogs...they are never too happy when my GSDs and I come to visit...But I do like a lot of other breeds but GSDs are just the ones I work and train.
