Shetland Sheepdog Puppies & New Puppy Artist

Posted by

(#Carni) on Aug 08, 2011
It has been decided that our very own Xylax will be doing puppy art from now on, starting with the Shetland Sheepdog! Item art for this new puppy is not yet finished, so please bear with us as we catch them up!

Now we need to know if you, the users of Alacrity, would like the puppies that have already been done, to be redone by Xylax, excluding the Corgi puppy, as both Xylax, myself, and our Site Owner, Robyn, are very happy with that particular pup done by yours truly. So, are you happy with the current pups the way they are, or would you like Xylax to redo them? There is a new poll up and running, so go and cast your vote!

Xylax has declared he is always open for critique, so if you have questions, suggestions, or anything of the like, you may feel free to post them so long as you remain respectful and courteous. :}

What age are the puppies of alacrity meant to be around? I've noticed certain things about them that are much more like an adult dog, than a puppy. Puppy paws tend to be smaller and more dainty, and their tails are usually much less fluffy and long, even if it's a fluffy breed. Of course, this all depends on the age of the pup you're going for, as well, which directs back to my question above. http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/paddyjulie/SN853723.jpg & http://www.puppy.com.my/images/regina001.jpg & http://www.denversale.com/photos/class/1258122305auk.jpg- The chest seems a little too wide to me for the pose and perspective, which could easily be fixed by the front right leg being moved downward. I think the head only looks small to me because the torso seems to be a little thick for the breed, and where the chest ends, doesn't seem to match up very well with the belly to me. The lines do seem a bit thick to me, but that's likely only because I've grown quite use to Carni's puppies, and my eyes tend to prefer the thinner lines on them so more markings are visible. I do love the expression of the puppy, and how the pose is unique to the other pups. Personally, I'd rather the old puppies stay the way they are. I like the JRT a lot, but maybe the Papillon could use a bit of touching up. (: Also, here's an example of a Husky puppies tail, when they're a puppy. http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs44/f/2009/157/3/f/New_Siberian_Husky_puppy_by_ThousandMiles.jpg & http://thebizzare.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/siberian-husky-puppy-1.jpg (They normally curl, but they aren't as thick/long/fluffy as they are when they're an adult.) I hope this helps, and good luck to you with all the breeds left to go! I know it's hard work, and obviously, it's very much appreciated. (:

The new puppy is extremely cute :3. But I still like how all the other puppies are, even though this puppy is adorable and the art is very clean.

Art criticism rule.

The "no critiquing unless asked for" rule has been revised - the rule is now that criticism needs to be done privately, unless publicly asked for.

In addition, I'm very upset with the response the new rule received. Not that it matters, but I'd just like to let you all know that I am being treated as if I am some tyrannical site owner who cares absolutely nothing what my players think. Everything from flippant talk of how "I know you don't want to hear this so I'll cut it short", "this rule is ridiculous and will bring down Alacrity", "I'm quitting if this rule actually stays", and more, has absolutely left me feeling like crap. I like to think I work very hard to give polls to see what people think and I am constantly revising things to make you players happy, and when I go to make a rule I think the best (and only have good intentions) for the artists on Ala and both the site artists, not only am I treated like crap, but I'm also made to sound as if I've never tried to better the website, EVER.

Feeling incredibly unappreciated here - I rarely say how I feel about a lot of things, but this one has me rather depressed.

Robyn, I think (whether others do or not) that you are an amazing site owner. For example, you work so hard on this site you hardly get sleep. And, when I come on I see new things every day. You try to satisfy everyone's needs, but if some people end up unhappy they criticize you, which is way wrong. To be honest with you, I look up to you because you are so amazing at getting things done, making everyone happy, getting almost everyone's opinions. I don't think you are a bad site owner at all, in fact you are the best and I pity people who think otherwise.

Back up!

Good news: we're back up and new server is now our database server and we're running much faster.

The only bad thing we've noticed so far is that usernames/dog tags/dog names were messed up if they had special symbols. For usernames and dog names please simply rename and all will work again - for dog tags please submit an issue to the bug hub and it will be remedied ASAP. :)

Enjoy the faster browsing speeds and hopefully no more crashing!

I'm deciding on some sort of awesome reward for all the downtime and inconvenience this has caused, bear with me. ;)

Awww poor Rob. I actually think its an excellent idea. You do a lot of good for this site. It wouldn't even exist without you. If they want to quit let them do so. They don't deserve to be on your site if they treat you like crap. *Hugs Rob*
