Pie Crew Adventures (Private)

Soo... since we're all Pie Crewers here I won't bother to lay out too many rules. Just these: one, do what you want as long as it makes sense, and two, feel free to use more than one of your dogs so long as your whole kennel isn't running around in here... that is, you can mention the rest of your dogs or have your own dogs interacting with each other but don't expect me to keep up with all of them as characters. ;)
Anyway, without further ado... let the adventures begin!

Sheena wakes up and notices everyone else is eating and catching fish. (That shouldn't be too hard) She said to herself. She got up carefully trying not to wake up Hecubus from his slumber. (I need to catch two so Hecubus can eat). She watches the others catch fish and grabs one on the first try. "I hope the second one is that easy" She concentrates and bites down on a second one. She happily picks both up and runs back to Hecubus nudging him and pushing the fish towards him.

Dinah and Sha both perked up at the sight of dead mammal. "Yes! Let me have its liver!" Sha cried. Dinah's tail wagged as she smelled the fresh blood and it dawned on her that she wouldn't have to eat fish.

"Nice kill," Cobalt complimented his brother, before going back to chewing on his fish. After a moment, he looked around at the circle of dogs and felt his tail start to wag contentedly. All of them were eating something. No one but Sha was seriously injured, and the group meshed well as a pack. He was sure the drive from his kennel to this place hadn't been long, so the walk shouldn't take more than a day. He started to feel a bit more optimistic about the journey ahead of them.

"Sha," he said when he was finished with his fish, "you never sleep in the truck. Which way is home?"

Sha sighed, winced, and pointed with his nose. "Thattaway," he replied. "The road's still there. Shall we?"

Frapep gladly took Dinah's fish and gobbeled it down almost instantly. When Dusk came back with the rabbit, she almost squealed in delight with the smell. However, he stomache was full so she didn't even bother asking for some.

When she saw Dinah's expression, she couldn't help but laugh.

Dusk raced after the rabbit, and his nose quivered as the scent became fresher and fresher. Finally he spied the unsuspecting rabbit grazing on dandelions in a clearing up ahead. The scene looked quite peaceful as the sunlight drifted down into one of the only well lit spots in the forest. The thing was, that the unintelligent rabbit had failed to recognize that between the thorns and nearby small cliff, there was really only one way out of the clearing. Dusk got low and gradually crept up to the clearing's entrance, till he was completely blocking his prey's only escape route. Then, with a mighty lunge, he threw his muscular form at the rather fat and stupid rabbit. The rabbit, quite in shock, immediately ran blindly towards the cliff. It stopped short at the massive rocky wall (well massive to the rabbit) and within the second Dusk was on him. With a quick snap of his powerful jaws, it was all over. Dusk picked up the plump bunny and trotted triumphantly back in the direction of the lake.

Reaching the lake, and proud of his kill, he pranced up to the others and laid the rabbit at his feet. "Who's hungry?" Dusk said, as a proud yet silly grin spread across his face.

"Um. Sure. Take it," Dinah said. It wasn't that the fish tasted bad; it just smelled odd and made her want to sneeze. She abandoned her fish and walked to the forest line, staring through the broken trees. As soon as Dusk returned, they needed to figure out where they were headed and get a move on. She wanted to see her son.

Frappe hummed to herself as she also took a fish and ate it. She didn't mind what she had to eat, as long as she had something. It was true though that she was spoiled, so she didn't ever have to worry about being fed scraps, but raw fish right out of the lake seemed to be, almost like a delicacy.

"This is delicious!" she yelled with a mouth of food. She devoured the fish and wagged her tail, a large smile on her face.

She turned to see Dinah picking at her fish. "why don't you want to eat it? Its awesome!" She blinked and flattened her ears. "If you aren't going to eat it, may I?"

"Most of us don't like wet water," Dinah snorted, still trying to rub the fish slime from her forehead by scraping her head along the ground. Cobalt was laughing at her, and poor Sha was trying to hold back his own mirth for fear of hurting his ribs.

Cobalt snagged a fish and started chewing happily, while Dinah picked at hers. Sha refused to eat one. "If Dusk ever gets back, we can get going, and I'll find something to eat on the way," he said, a trifle irritably.

Kendra wandered over to Dinah and laid down it had been a long day and she was feeling tired... she was 8 now not young like Kineta. She eyed Kineta, "Come on Kineta! Maybe one of those fish ate a golden acorn for lunch!"

Kineta slide her way out from under Cobalt and dashed towards Dinah and Kendra. "Did you say golden acorn???! The fish might have eaten one??" Without thinking further she dove into the lake and came up with.... a plant? She spit it out and barked back at Kendra and Dinah. "Don't worry, almost got it! I can see underwater with my goggles!" She continued to dive down short ways and come back up for air often after a good while of work she had collected good pile of fish that she had been throwing at.. well.. Kendra and Dinah of course! It's more fun to try and hit them in the head with a fish!

As a fish hit Kendra in the head she carefully added it to the pile and stood up. "Kineta you should probably come back now and help us look for the golden acron, you're gonna get tired."

Kineta looked at Kendra seeming a bit confused tired? Tired?? She was still full of energy! But.. she did want to see if there was a golden acron in side of any of these fishys! She paddled back and bounced around on the shore for a few minutes to try and get most the water of her coat. "I like trees a lot more than all this wet wet water!"

"Food?" Cobalt's ears perked up and he considered going after Dusk to help-- how many times had he lost a rabbit he could have caught if there had been someone to help him corner it?-- but his primary concern right now was keeping Kineta out of the way. Now Rolo and Hecubus were with them too, and that would be an added distraction to him. He hoped the others could hunt. If the houses and kennels were in as bad shape as the woods were in now, their masters might not be able to feed them... if they found their masters at all.

Dinah sniffed along the shore halfheartedly. She encountered one dead fish and recoiled. "You can eat that," she told Frappe. "If this is all we can find, I'll stay hungry." She could see live fish in the water, feeding on the insects trapped in the detritus on the lake's surface, and she snarled with frustration. Dinah was fast on land, but she'd have no chance at catching a live fish. It would take someone with far more luck and boundless energy-- hmm. "Kineta!" Dinah barked. "Kineta, how would you like to go fishing?"

Dusk watched as the others wandered off to find fish, fish weren't really his thing. He couldn't help but pay the thoughts that raced around in his head the attention they screamed to have. He wandered off a few feet, circled a few times, and lay down in a semi-large pile of dead leaves. The makeshift nest was actually rather comfortable but worry prevented sleep. He knew that his pups were practically grown now, they'd be fine, but he worried for the new litter Sapphire was due to have today. The stress of the storm could have easily induced her labor. His green eyes pierced the air and space with deep thought and in spite of himself the tension in his body slowly released and his eyelids began to droop....

Suddenly, a rabbit ran frantically out of the brush behind Dusk and into a nearby thicket. Dusk's ears instantly perked up and within seconds he was running on full alert. "Food." With a great thrust from his hindquarters, he sped to the thicket and saw the rabbit had exited out the other side. Dusk called back to the others "There's rabbit here, be back as soon as I've caught 'im". Dusk then proceeded into the forest, trailing the unsuspecting rabbit, and excited by the thrill of the hunt.

Hecubus snuggled into the warth of Sheena, and tried to ignore his stomach. He was warmer, yes. But with the warmth came the soreness and the rumbles. He really didn't know why, but he would be mortified if the older dogs were to hear his stomach! He could sense that there was worry or tension in the air, but he really wasn't sure what all the fuss was about. He was glad they carried him. He needed the break, but now, he wanted to prove that he was a grown-up too! He snuggled deeper into Sheenas side. He would show them! He would be big and strong and help the others instead of them helping him! Right after this little nap....

Sheena lifted her head up to see Dinah carrying Hecubus towards her. She could tell the pup was hungry and weak. She inched towards the pup to keep him warm. (We need to find some food...and soon.) She thought. She put her head back down and listened to everything else going on around them.

Sha stared at Frappe. "You can look... but in a storm that rough, I would think fish would dive to the bottom instead of staying at the surface to be tossed to death."

"Fish are stupid, Sha. There might be some," Dinah sighed. "I guess I'll come help." She hated fish, but food was food.

"Cobalt kills rabbits sometimes. Maybe you can get him to hunt," Sha suggested.

Frappe couldn't help but ntoice the worry on Dinah's face as she spoke. Frappe didn;t know how long she could go herself without food. She was fed constantly and never had to worry about straving.

"Maybe we should go back to where the lake and find some fish or something? I don't think it will be too tedius of a job since some fish might've surfaced during the storm." After taking a quick moment to think, Frappe added hastily, " of course, I'll go over to the lake. I mean, unless someone else wants to go." She scanned through the dogs to see who would volunteer.

"If I know Dinah, she'll want to keep it that way," Sha said. "She won't want to scare the puppies. Don't worry, though. Cobalt isn't the idiot he acts like and I'm tougher than I look. We'll make it."

Dinah managed to pick that moment to arrive with Frappe and the pups. She gently set the puppy she'd been carrying next to Sheena and walked over to the tree where Sha and Kendra were talking. "We have problems," she said immediately in a low voice. "Hecubus is hungry. So am I. We have no food and a long way to walk. On top of that, I have no idea which way home is from here. What are we going to do?"

Cobalt hadn't missed the tension in his friend and he thought he knew the reason for it. He trusted Sha and the sensible border collies to figure things out, though. The best thing he could do was distract the pups. Which a ferocious growl, he jumped on Kineta, pinned her and lay down across her back for good measure. "I used to run away from the kennel a lot when I was your age. It drove my master nuts," he explained to the squirming squirrel pup. "Once, when I was wandering through the woods I saw a flash of gold, so I followed it and what do you think I found?"

Kineta's eyes shown with excitement. "You've met the golden squirrel?!!? But how!! Is he this way?? Oh, please tell me he's this way! I want to meet him so badly Cobalt! How many golden acrons does he have??? Do you know!? Tell me everything Cobalt, please! Kineta jumped back up after being knocked over by Cobalt and paws her goggles and stood tall. "I'm ready to find him! Adventure here I come!!" She wagged her tail like she was trying to fly and then tackled Cobalt back and began to play with him as she attacked him with her curious questions.

Kendra watched them play as she walked over to a tree and sat down next to it. "It's fun to watch them play." She commented to Sha. "I'm getting hungry though and you're hurt... this isn't going to be a cake walk.. they don't realize that yet." She sighed and continued to watch them play while checking every so often to see if Dinah and the others were coming yet.

Upon hearing this, Dinah froze. Food? She hadn't even thought of that, even though she was hungry too. It had always been a given that when she was hungry, her master would feed her. But now... she looked around and saw no people. No food. What would they do?

She said nothing, however, not wanting to disturb Frappe's lightened mood. She'd consult with Kendra and Dusk when they reached the rest of the pack.

"Come on," she said, nipping Hecubus gently to get his attention. "We need to join the others. No telling what kind of trouble that shepherd pup is into by now. Do you need one of us to carry you over the debris?"

Frappe laughed at the pup and placed a paw on his head. "We'll try to find some food as we passed by the wreckage, okay?" Frappe followed Dinah as they left the cave.

Hecubus was having a grand time playing with Rolo. This pup was a great match for him, and it was clear that the kind Dinah was a great Mother. It made Hecubus yearn for his own Mother whose memory was getting fainter and fainter since the day his new master had taken him away to his new kennel. It was lonesome for a bit, but he loved his kennelmates and wondered briefly how they were doing. It was a small, new kennel and all of his kennel mates were young. He missed the presence of older more mature dogs. To Hecubus, the storm had been a mixed blessing of sorts, as he had met some wonderful companions. Dinah, whom he completely repected, and Frappe who was taking such excellent care of him, he could do no more than be a complete puppy. Rolo charged him, and dropping his right foreleg, was able to deflect the charge and Rolo flipped right over and landed in a small heap grinning from ear to ear. Hecubus took that oppertunity to race up to Frappe who sat watching them intently, but obviously lost in her own thoughts. Sliding to a halt in front of the older female, he cocked his head to the side and nuzzeled her upperneck, just behind her ear. "um, Frappe? Problem number one has been dealt with, now what are we gonna do about some chow?"

Dinah jumped. She'd been so absorbed in watching the pups that she hadn't noticed Frappe's approach. She surveyed the wrecked landscape and gave her friend a wry look. "It's wonderful."

She stood up and walked over to the wrestling puppies and nudged Rolo with her foot. "Time to go, sweetpea." She looked back over her shoulder at Frappe. "As soon as we get our bearings, we're heading for home."
