Hey everyone!
Welcome to the Summer Sendoff Writing Contest!
This contest will be open for entries from September 1st until September 22nd. The Alacrity staff will spend a week curled up with a cup of tea and your wonderful written works, and the winners will be announced on September 30th!
01. This contest is free to enter, and you may enter any form or style of written work.
02. One entry per person, not per account.
03. Your entry must be your own original work. No collaborations (and of course no plagirising!).
04. Your entry may not exceed 1500 words. There is no minimum requirement (haikus welcome!).
05. Your entry must be complete when you post it.
06. The theme for this contest is "changing seasons".
07. Entries close at 11:59PM (Ala time) on September 22nd.
We have three big prizes for this contest:
• 1 Aviator Cap
• 15 bones
• A custom dog of your own design
First place winner will get first pick from those three, 2nd place will get to choose between the two left, and 3rd place will get the remaining item.
That's not all, though...
Everyone* who enters without disqualification will receive $5000!
(*except the winners)
• Plagirising (which would also violate Alacrity's art theft rule).
• Entering something which breaks any of Alacrity's rules.
• Entering something that has nothing to do with the theme.
• Exceeding 1,500 words.
• Entering something which clearly has very little thought or effort put into it (e.g., a single phrase you thought up).
• Making any edits to your entry after posting it (fixing format, spelling or minor grammatical errors is allowed, though).
• Posting an entry after 11:59PM (Ala time) on September 22nd.
Doing any of these things will get you disqualified. This means your entry won't be counted, and you won't get to make another entry to the contest in its place!
Entering is easy -- just post your entry in reply to this thread!
If you have any questions about this contest that aren't answered here, please don't hesitate to ask in the Issue Hub! :)

Seasonal

the colors change,
the leaves fall down,
flesh decays
and dreams, they drown.
my thoughts are ice,
but time a flame,
we have ideas,
but no solid claim.
the sun comes up
for a little while,
but as soon as it leaves,
we're in denial.
he's at her throat
and I'm at yours.
opinions changing
like wind on the moors.
our life you see
is a fickle thing.
we never know
what each day will bring.
our thoughts and ideals
never stay the same
and our feelings for others
we find hard to proclaim.
things that are right
won't come again.
that's why mad men
write in pen.

Child of Winter

I am a child of winter, born to face the cold, harsh weather. I was born into a world of white grounds and trees, to a world where the sun only shined for so long before the moon took its place and blanketed the world in darkness with only the light of the stars and the moon to guide us. I was born into a world where I've never seen the green grass or heard the sound of chirping birds. Where the only flowers I saw where the ones kept indoors in the greenhouse and even then those looked as dull as the outside world was.
Before I was one the snow had gone and left behind things that where long since buried beneath its cold, white weight. Weeks passed by and life suddenly began to blossom before me. I saw grass, bright green, lushes grass that was full of bright red bugs full of tiny black dots and small mounds of dirt where tiny, black ants crawled in and out of. I saw flowers again, this time full of life, in colors of pink, red, yellow, and blue, but I must say purple is my favorite.
From there came the crippling heat. The sun stayed up for hours a day, up high in the sky, beating down on me and warming my skin to the point where it became red and hot Mother called it a sunburn and when it was needed she'd spread aloe upon my skill to cool it down and let it heal. I hated it with a passion.
It was when the green leaves turned dark shades of red, orange, and yellow that I realized that I should have enjoyed those few short months of colorful life. After all winter was on its way.

Seasonal Shoes (a children's poem).
Written By: Silent Story Writer

Seasons Come. Seasons Go.
Just like the shoes we wear.

Rain boots are for puddles.
Sandals are for sun.
Snow shoes are for winter fun.
Sneakers are for all the other days.

There are so many shoes to wear for so many occasions.
Picking the right ones aren't always easy.
It is sometimes more fun to go bare footed.

Such as.

Dancing in the rain.
Feeling the warm sand between your toes.
Running across the cold snow.
Twirling about fresh fallen leaves.

It's up to to you want you do.
When the Seasons Come.
But most of all.
Enjoy the season while it's here.

It's a cold winters night, and mother huddles next to the fire, snug and warm. Her belly is full and ready to pop this upcoming spring, with little puppies that she just can't wait to meet. She rests her golden head on her paws and heaves a heavy sigh. She glances at the Christmas tree, who seems to smile gently back at her, excited to welcome the new puppies next winter's eve.

It's a nice cool spring morning, and mother is lying in her box. She can feel her little ones wanting to come out and explore the vast world that awaits them. It's a few hours before the little golden bundles of joy are out and squirming around her belly. She sniffs each one, checking their health. A chikadee perches near the window, twittering a welcome to the newborn pups.

It's a hot summers day but the pups don't mind. They are a quarter grown and ready to play outside again, this time in the pool that the people have put out for them. They splash in the pool and play fight with each other, as mother watches ever so lovingly. The water in which they play glistens in the sun as if it is laughing along with them.

It's a chilly fall evening, and the pups are now half grown. Their legs are floppy and they stumble as they run. They still love to play and they dash through the leaves, jumping in piles up to their necks, popping out at their brothers and sisters and giving them a spook. A golden/red leaf lands on one of the pups heads, giving mother a laugh at her pups funny hat. The leaves swirl and dance as the pups gallop around, feeling alive as if they once too, had the energy to share.

Mother sat on the porch as winter rolled around again, and she knew that each season would have lovely memories in store for her pups each time.

Fall:

Hello dear friend,
it’s nice to see you again.
There’s been so much I’ve missed,
when you last left with a twist.

Like your brisk, chilly wind
and the trees as they’re “skinned”.
Or perhaps the smell of pumpkins
which produce the most elated of grins!

Also, dear fall, my favorite of all!
The frost bringing insects to their pitfall!
That is definitely important to me
because finally, while driving, it’s possible to see!

Sadly, my dear season,
Some hate you for no reason!
But worry not, my little “pet”,
there’s NO need to sweat.

Most of us adore you,
trust me, it’s true!
So please, my dear love, do not have the fear
To return just as lovely and vibrant each year!

At the end of it all,
at the first snowfall,
your beauty will be diminished,
and autumn will be finished.

But do not fret,
there is hope yet!
The lovers of autumn will team up together,
to count down the days until the return of your weather.

Dear Hiver and Spring,

It's a love she and I share. She's always hot and I'm usually not. I'm more, down to earth. She's the spark you need to get going and she brightens your day. She's got this brilliant golden blonde hair, looks just like golden rays from the heavens; and her eyes...she's got the ocean in her eyes: dazzling sapphire blue it seems, with very light green flecks mixed in...oh but when she's mad or highly upset do those salty tears fall...they flood down her face but she's never had a very ugly day. Not like me..I have auburn hair that falls to my waist and shining amber eyes. I always have leaves in my hair, she's always got a hair tie in or it's loose, or even has sand in her hair. She wears cute Cami's and shorts with beach sandals or flip flops; I wear shorts and T-shirts and sneakers or jeans and sweaters with boots. I love her though, she's older than me by a couple months, and she's got a beautiful butterfly collection. I've got a black cat called Halloween. She's out going, friendly..I like more calm things and apples are The best. She prefers smoothies. I can't complain though, Summer is my sister, and I wouldn't trade her for another Season ever... I mean person.

~Autumn~

Fall's Arrival

The wind blows through the summer trees
Announcing the arrival of Fall that is soon to come;
The harvest moon ascends to the sky
Glowing as a lantern for harvesters,
Lighting their way.
Soon Fall will be here and the leaves will fall,
Shimmering gold, and floating dancers
Will announce their arrival and then just as quickly
Take their exit.
